Woori Plastic Surgery *Please be aware of unexpected inflammation, bleeding, infection, or other side effects that may occur after the surgery. Hello, I’m Doctor Kang Byeong-soo in charge of the wrinkles plastic surgery here at the clinic I’ll be talking about facelifts today One of the questions that many patients ask is The incisions during a facelift
So I'll explain the incisions as well as scarring and the differences of each in facelifts There are two major components to the incision lines First I’ll explain to you using the picture in our website As you can see there are two incision lines connecting to the inside of the head and around the ear Actually if you look at the scalp line the front of the ear line has the same incision line
There’s a round curve and goes past the front of the ear The part where you wrap the corners behind your ears and go back is the same Going further up, the incision in the scalp line goes into the scalp The incision in the hairline goes in front of the scalp, the boundary between the hairline and the skin Then why do you cut at the hairline There are more pros than making an incision around the scalp
The incision in the scalp line is made in the head So sideburns might move a bit And it causes a scarring line in your head that doesn't have any hair growth So getting a hairline incision eliminated the these two drawbacks The sideburns don’t move and there’s no scarring at the hairline Leaving no line of empty spots in the head
But the drawback is that there will be a longer scar So what's good to consider when deciding For hairline incisions it would considered to be better For younger patients or for patients where scarring is important If I explain more people usually prefer the scalp incision If hair is a very sensitive topic and you care more about your hair
Then those patients tend to decided on making incision around the hairline But I do both methods So I explain to my patients in detail So I think the ratio is about 7:3, 8:2 for people who prefer to cut the scalp line instead of the hairline He was one of our young patients who recently had a procedure at our clinic Facelift was performed to fix the sagging cheeks after getting the facial bone contouring surgery
His overall hair was in good state However, moving of the sideburns was one of his worries so it was performed with the hairline incision So you can see the incision here There are no changes in his scalp So performing in this way cause no change of positions in the hairline
Or to the sideburns The front and back of the ear is similar So this is after once the stitches were removed It's one month post-surgery and it's still quite red But it's not as visual which is just a normal recovery stage So there’s actually no scars in the hairline and inside the scalp
The scarring at the front is not bad at all And this is 2 months post-surgery and there are still bits of redness Scar is getting and there are no scars at the sideburns or within the head or scalp Actually younger patients tend to prefer the scalp incisions But if the patient is considering undercut hairstyles Then one may see the scar
So hairline incision can be helpful for these people So in conclusion, women with long hair Moving of the sideburns doesn't really cause much problem Generally, I recommend incision inside scalp to patients If I should choose, I prefer scalp line incision at a 8:2 ratio Make your decision after giving it a deep thought
The differences in results caused by this aren’t that big So there’s no need to worry about the results Focus on the scars and advantages and disadvantages And make your decision This has been Dr. Kang Byeong-soo from Woori Plastic Surgery Thank you
