Ah, I forgot to mention that No alcohol or smoking. Absolutely no alcohol or smoking No alcohol or smoking Hello, Beauty is Woori, this is Dr. Jeong from Woori Beauty TV I’m not sure where the rumor started, but recently, a lot more people have been coming in for double chin surgery If we look at the total number of surgeries performed in a day, the proportion of double chin surgeries has significantly increased

Of course, my surgical skills are important, But when it comes to double chin surgery, it’s something that both the patient and I work on together I perform the surgery, but the patient is responsible for aftercare So today, I’d like to talk about post-op care Since aftercare is crucial, whether you’re planning to have surgery or have already had it, please remember the key points I’ll go over

Right after surgery, there will be significant swelling and bruising. The reason is The dissection area is quite large So the more swelling and bruising there is, the slower the recovery and the longer it takes to see results Initially, we recommend cold compresses, and the reason is If minor bleeding continues, more bruising will appear Cold compresses help stop bleeding and

Also minimize swelling by using an ice pack massage Many people recommend switching to warm compresses from day 3 or 4 But research shows that warm compresses don’t have as much of a proven effect as people think So these days, if cold compresses seem to be working well, it’s fine to continue with them If swelling doesn’t seem to be going down significantly, then from around day 4, we need to start warming the area

Since at that point, warming the area becomes necessary, But as a general rule, cold compresses are better because they reduce the risk of infection compared to warm compresses For patients at higher risk of infection, I recommend sticking to cold compresses only If after a few days, cold compresses don’t seem to be making much difference, then we start warm compresses from day 4

Once you’ve had the surgery, I’ll remind you again, so just keep that in mind The day after surgery, patients usually come back and get a special band called a "dangimi," which is very important If you’ve looked into liposuction, you might know that compression garments are required Typically, people wear compression garments for about a month, and this serves the same purpose Let’s say you have a double chin

And there’s a noticeable fat bulge here If we remove this amount of fat, ideally, the skin should reattach smoothly But due to gravity, it tends to sag Of course, it won’t return completely to its original state, but it does loosen again To prevent this, we use the compression band, which works like a compression garment After double chin surgery, wearing the dangimi properly ensures that the skin adheres well

Since many people, like office workers, can’t wear the band 24/7, At the very least, please wear it while you sleep Next is lifestyle habits—reducing swelling is the most important part of recovery So you can think of swelling reduction as the key to everything Use a pillow with a slight incline when sleeping Walk regularly and avoid excessive exercise

Especially for cases where double chin muscles have been tightened, as the area will feel tight So it's best to avoid Pilates or neck stretches that fully extend this area If you eat ramen or very salty food before bed, you wake up swollen, right? Eating too much salty or spicy food will inevitably cause more swelling Swelling increases the risk of inflammation, so you need to be careful

And when body temperature rises, bacteria multiply more easily So you shouldn’t go to saunas or hot baths too soon If you do, the fluid trapped inside can become a breeding ground for bacteria, so you must be cautious Lastly, let’s talk about scar management For this surgery, an incision of about 2 cm is made While the initial cut is slightly smaller, the skin stretches slightly during surgery

So the final scar will be around 2 to 2.5 cm If you wear the compression band (dangimi) 24/7 for 30 days, pressure sores may form, leading to worse scarring Wearing it for too long isn’t good either So you should take short breaks and check your skin regularly Next, let's talk about stitch removal—this is quite important If stitches are removed too late, they can leave stitch scars—this applies to any surgery

Whether it's double chin surgery or eyelid surgery, for facial procedures, Stitches are typically removed on day 7, but at that point, the wound isn’t fully healed yet Even after removing stitches on day 7, don’t think, "I’m free now!" If you stretch your neck too much, the stitched area will naturally pull This creates tension on the scar And that can make the scar appear thicker

Unlike the nose, which doesn’t move much and heals well, The neck moves frequently, making it prone to stretching This doesn’t mean the skin separates, but rather that the scar widens over time So you need to be mindful of that Even after stitches are removed, scars can continue to expand So it's best to avoid excessive stretching or movement for at least a month

I’ve explained swelling, lifestyle habits, and scar care Double chin surgery requires proper aftercare, so keep that in mind If you have any further questions or want to inquire about double chin surgery, leave a comment, and I’ll get back to you This has been Dr. Jeong from Woori Beauty TV. Thank you!
