Hello, we are Doctor Jin and Director Son from Flexible Doctors. Today, we are going to learn about pin removal surgery with Dr. Jin who is a medical professional that specializes in facial contouring. Doctor, what is pin removal surgery? When we do facial bone surgery, we go through the process of cutting and moving the bones. After that, we have to make sure to maintain a strong connection between the bones.

The material we usually use to secure everything in place at that point in the process is called a fixation pin. So, after cutting the bones, you use a fixation pin to secure everything in place, right? But, Doctor, if you remove the fixation pin, will the bones move back? There are a lot of people who think that. Our bones are usually different from iron because they are made of living tissue.

It's living tissue. So, if you keep a certain part, fluid pressure is better than hydraulic pressure in this context. So, there is no problem with removing the fixation pin six months after the operation. Hm, I see. There is actually quite a bit of variety when it comes to facial contouring surgery, right, Doctor? Which of those surgeries require the use of a fixation pin?

In short, do most people know about square jaw surgery? All you need to know is that the fixation pin is not only used for square jaw surgery. It’s also used for other surgeries such as cheekbone reduction, jaw tip surgery, lantern jaw, asymmetric, and so on. A pin is needed because all of those surgeries need to move and maintain a strong connection between bones.

So, is it necessary for patients to have the pin removed, Doctor? Uh... not really! Medically speaking, there is no need to remove it. It’s not in a location that can be touched, so if the patient has no complications with the pin, it can be left in. Then, please explain the process of pin removal surgery. It's not an easy surgery because we have to remove the pin attached to the bone.

However, if there is only a pin at the tip of the jaw, it is possible to remove it by having the patient undergo general anesthesia. If the pin is located on part of the cheekbone or another part of the jaw, we have to use a process that requires surgery while the mouth is open.

The time required for surgery increases due to the amount of pins a patient has. The minimum time for the surgery is approximately 20 minutes, while the maximum is approximately one hour. Then, is there any specific time that pin removal surgery should be performed after facial contouring surgery? Yes. there is. There is a set time for when the pin can be removed.

As I said before, it needs to be done after the bones go through a fluid pressure process, so the quickest possible time we can do pin removal surgery is six months after the initial procedure. For future patients, I would recommend that those who don't like foreign substances in their bodies have the pin removed as soon as two years have passed. Alright, thank you for explaining everything to us.

We have been the Flexible Doctors. Thank you for watching!
