Hello, we are Doctor Jin and Director Son from Flexible Doctors. Today, I have selected some of the most commonly asked questions to ask our doctor to answer. Alright. Doctor, one of the questions asked, “Can you have facial contouring surgery without any incisions?” Okay. For facial contouring surgery, we usually do three things.
Square jaw surgery Tip of the jaw reduction surgery Cheek reduction surgery Procedures like that. I often see advertisements from other hospitals that use wording like “no incisions” or “minimally invasive.” Basically, it is difficult to do this type of surgery without any incisions.
A certain incision is necessary because we need direct access to the bone to cut, move, and fix it. So, when we do this type of surgery, we try to leave the scars from the incisions in places that are not easily seen by others. So incision or non-incision is not that important. I can tell you that we must make minimal incisions in order to get the best results possible. I see.
You mean it is difficult to do ultimate bone reduction without any incisions? That's right. I see. Alright, let me ask you the second question, doctor. The second question is about facial contouring and asks, “Can a lantern jaw be improved with facial contouring surgery?” Sometimes the bite of the teeth is relatively good, and the jaw is simply large.
The second case is that the occlusion itself is misaligned. In other words, it is divided into two with a staggered bite. When the lantern jaw doesn’t line up with the upper and bottom jaws, we usually say that it is accompanied by a malocclusion. If the individual’s lantern jaw is accompanied by a malocclusion, it is difficult to see the effect with facial contouring surgery.
In this case, it is often necessary to perform double jaw surgery. So, if the occlusion is relatively good and the tip of the chin is protruding forward, facial contouring surgery will be an effective enough procedure. For cases like this, we usually perform tip of the jaw reduction surgery. You can shorten the length of the tip of your jaw, or sometimes reduce the width.
If the jaw is protruding forward, you can see the full effect by performing a jaw tip retraction surgery that will push the tip of the jaw backward. I see. You mean that the appropriate surgery depends on the condition? Therefore, it is important to get an accurate diagnosis first to accurately plan the surgery. Thank you for your helpful information. It will be really helpful for potential patients.
Today, we learned about facial contouring through our Q&A session. Thank you for watching.
