Sangwangsimni Dermatology: What If Your Skin Only Keeps
Sagging and Losing Strength?
Sangwangsimni Dermatology

Hello, I am Kang Bu-kyung, the chief doctor at Wangsimni You&I Dermatology.
"As I get older, my skin seems to sag more and
lose elasticity little by little.."
"It was fine just a few years ago..
But these days, I feel upset every time I look in the mirror."
Many of you may be reading this article while worrying about things like this.
When skin loses its firmness and starts to sag, it can even lower your confidence and cause stress because you may look older than your age.
No matter how natural aging is, it can still feel frustrating to resent the fast-moving passage of time. (Honestly, I feel the same way too.. ^^;;)
So today, to help with these concerns even a little,
I will explain in detail, starting with why skin sags and loses elasticity,
and then which procedures may help.

Why does skin sag?
Skin sagging and loss of elasticity can be divided into intrinsic and extrinsic factors.
First, looking at intrinsic factors, as you age, the skin becomes thinner and its ability to synthesize collagen and elastin decreases.
In addition, as the function of fibroblasts within the skin weakens, collagen production decreases and breakdown increases, leading to reduced elasticity.
The ability to retain moisture also declines, and as facial muscles and subcutaneous fat atrophy, the support that holds the skin up becomes weaker.

For extrinsic factors, sun exposure is the biggest one. Ultraviolet rays destroy collagen and elastin and increase reactive oxygen species, accelerating skin aging.
In addition, lifestyle habits such as dry environments, smoking, drinking, irregular sleep, and sudden weight changes can also contribute to loss of elasticity.
So skin sagging and reduced elasticity can appear due to many causes, but is there any way to improve it?
To put it simply, it cannot be completely prevented, but there are several procedures that can produce good results.

How do Ulthera and Oligio lifting procedures help?
As mentioned above, lifting procedures can help improve skin concerns caused by various factors.
Representative examples include Ulthera and Oligio.
Ulthera tip preparation
First, Ulthera is a procedure whose main purpose is to deliver thermal energy to the deep layers of the skin, especially the SMAS layer, using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).
In this process, the skin tissue contracts directly and collagen is regenerated, so a lifting effect can be expected.
It can be very helpful for direct skin sagging such as a double chin, jowls, and nasolabial folds.

On the other hand, Oligio helps the skin by delivering thermal energy to the dermis through radiofrequency (RF) energy, stimulating collagen fibers and promoting regeneration.
It can help improve fine wrinkles, skin texture, and pores, and unlike Ulthera, which can be quite painful, Oligio is known for causing less pain.
It is difficult to directly improve sagging skin, but it is a procedure that can help improve reduced elasticity caused by decreased collagen.

Are there any other helpful procedures?
The procedures introduced just now are actually only a small part of the many available options.
Procedures such as Ulthera and Oligio improve the skin by delivering thermal energy to it.
You may have also heard of thread lifting, but thread lifting is not a procedure that delivers thermal energy.
Thread lifting is a procedure in which dissolvable threads are inserted directly into the lower layers of the skin to pull up sagging skin and induce collagen production.
Botox
Botox can also help with concerns related to skin aging.
Botox is a procedure that helps reduce expression wrinkles and improve facial contours by suppressing excessive muscle movement.
In addition, skin boosters are procedures that improve skin health by directly injecting ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or polynucleotides into the dermis, and they are sometimes used together with other lifting procedures.
In this way, I have explained the causes of skin sagging and the various procedures that may help for those who visit Sangwangsimni Dermatology.
Each procedure has its own advantages, so it would be best to choose one that suits your skin condition and concerns.
Thank you for reading this long post. This was Chief Doctor Kang Bu-kyung. ^^
