Hello!
This is Kang In-jeong, CEO and head doctor of The River Dermatology :)

[Dangsan Body Toning]
Body toning is a procedure that is seeing steadily increasing demand these days.
Many patients visit for pigmentation caused by various reasons in areas such as the underarms, elbows, back, neck, buttocks, knees, groin, and arms.
Many people may have wondered, “Can this be treated at a dermatology clinic too? How is it treated, and how many sessions are needed?”
So today, I’d like to talk about body toning :)
Causes of Body Pigmentation

[Dangsan Body Toning]
Dark pigmentation that appears on the elbows, knees, back, and underarms
can make many people feel self-conscious when they need to expose those areas,
and in some cases, it can even reduce confidence.
This pigmentation can occur due to various causes,
including genetic factors, hormonal changes, skin friction, use of topical products (perfume, deodorant, etc.), sun exposure, dermatitis, keratosis pilaris, acne, and burns.
Equipment Used for Body Toning

For body toning, depending on each person’s skin condition,
it is important to resolve pigmentation problems that lie deep within the skin while causing as little irritation as possible.
The VRM4 used for body toning at The River Dermatology
uses 532nm and 1064nm wavelengths
and is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that targets melanin pigment,
minimizing effects on surrounding tissue and helping break down pigment cells so they can be removed by the immune system.
Aftercare Following Body Toning

Areas and skin types that are prone to pigmentation
may develop pigmentation again due to various factors,
so it is important to apply sunscreen and moisturizer thoroughly after the procedure,
and to minimize behaviors that irritate the skin.
Also, to help prevent pigmentation, it is better to receive maintenance treatment at regular intervals.
In the beginning, treatment once every 1–2 weeks is recommended, and after that, maintenance treatment about once every 2–4 weeks is advised.
Effects of Body Toning

[Dangsan Body Toning]
The effects of body toning may vary depending on each person’s skin condition.
After the procedure, the skin may temporarily become red,
and as the treatment is repeated, the skin tone gradually becomes brighter and pigmentation improves.
At least 5 to 10 or more sessions may be needed.
You may want to see improvement more quickly,
but areas where pigmentation tends to develop are usually thin and delicate,
so the safest and most effective approach is to remove pigment gradually while causing as little irritation as possible.
At The River Dermatology, we carefully analyze each customer’s skin condition
and identify the type and depth of the pigment problem to design the most appropriate treatment plan.
