Hello.
I’m Dentist Kim Tae-hyung, with experience in more than 10,000 procedures.

Do you know when the most rewarding moment as a dentist is?
It’s when patients regain a confident smile. haha
But at the same time, there is also a most heartbreaking moment.
That’s when I meet people who are suffering because of the wrong laminate procedure.
People whose teeth are so sensitive they can’t even drink beverages properly,
people whose gums have receded and whose teeth look longer and longer,
people who come in urgently because their laminate has come off...
Watching cases like these, I found one common factor.
(p.s. As the title says, the one thing that will cause big problems if you don’t know it is exactly this haha)
In today’s post, I’d like to talk about what that common factor is.
Please take just 3 minutes to read it and remember what I’m telling you.
Because that will be the first step toward protecting your smile for life.
What happens after laminate treatment?
Laminate precautions
When considering laminate, many people check the price, the clinic’s reputation, and reviews. Of course, these are all important.
But there are far too many people who miss the single most important thing.
That is the importance of natural teeth.
Once a tooth has been removed, it can never be restored... and yet many people undergo treatment without realizing how important the naturally grown teeth in their own body are.

A typical laminate procedure reduces the tooth by about 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm.
You might ask, what’s the problem if it’s not even 1 mm?
The outermost layer of our teeth, the enamel, is on average 1.5 mm thick. In other words, you lose up to 70% of the tooth’s most important protective layer.
As time passes, teeth that have been reduced this way can cause many problems:
sensitivity,
gum recession,
laminate debonding,
and even nerve damage...

The most unfortunate part is that these problems do not show up clearly right after the procedure.
They usually begin to appear one by one after about 6 months to a year.
By then, it is already too late. Once a tooth has been shaved down, it cannot be restored.
This is why the amount of tooth reduction is the most important precaution in laminate treatment.
More important than the immediate cost or treatment time is how much of your natural teeth can be preserved.
How can you protect your natural teeth?
Laminate precautions
Many people ask:
"Is it possible to create beautiful laminate while shaving down the teeth less?"
To answer first: yes, it is possible.
However, two absolute conditions are needed.
The first is "very thin ceramic."

If you want to reduce tooth shaving as much as possible, then naturally you need a laminate that is that much thinner.
If you barely reduce the tooth and then bond a thick laminate on top...
Even if there is no problem for dental health, it will not look good aesthetically. ^^;
But this is by no means easy.
The thinner the ceramic, the easier it is to break and the more difficult it is to handle.
The second is a "precision dental laboratory system."

When fabricating laminate with very thin ceramic, the usual laboratory process is not enough.
It requires custom-made fabrication tailored to each patient’s tooth condition.
Through this, not only the laminate’s adhesion and strength...
but also color, translucency, and shape must all harmonize perfectly.
As a side note... our Blancsh was also developed based on this philosophy. ^^

While preserving a tooth reduction amount that is only about one-fifth to one-tenth of that of regular laminate...
we provide treatment that is as healthy as possible, using laminate that is thinner than a strand of hair while still maintaining strength, adhesion, and aesthetics. haha
(We even manage every step directly in our in-house laboratory and custom-make each case according to the patient’s individual tooth condition!)

Of course, building this kind of system is not easy.
It requires a great deal of time, effort, and investment.
But I believe that protecting patients’ healthy natural teeth is the true meaning of laminate.
Therefore, if you are considering laminate,
- please make sure to check what techniques the clinic has to preserve natural teeth,
- and whether it has a system that can support that.

Even if it costs a little more and takes a little more time...
choose the method that protects your natural teeth.
That is the only way to truly keep a beautiful smile for a long time.
I sincerely support your healthy and beautiful smile... and will end here.
Thank you very much to everyone who read to the end! haha
