Hello.

I’m dentist Kim Tae-hyung, who has spent the past 10 years studying only laminates, reading dozens of overseas papers every day and attending academic conferences every weekend.

As tooth-prep-free laminates have become more popular recently, I’ve noticed that many people ask questions like this in my clinic.

"If there’s no prep, aren’t they all the same?"

"If nothing is being shaved down anyway,

isn’t it fine to get them anywhere?"

Questions from patients that are truly unfortunate...

To be honest, at first I thought the same way. Haha;

Because the key point is that the teeth are not being shaved, I assumed all tooth-prep-free laminates would be similar.

But after performing more than 10,000 procedures, I realized something.

A single word—"tooth-prep-free"—does not guarantee anything.

In fact, because the teeth are not being shaved, it requires even higher technical skill and more delicate know-how.

In fact, among the people who visit Blancche, quite a few have experienced failure after getting tooth-prep-free laminates elsewhere.

(such as teeth appearing unnaturally protruded, laminates frequently coming off, or the color looking unnatural...)

So today, based on what I’ve learned through 10 years of research and countless procedures,

No prep = easier? Tooth-prep-free laminates

Many people have a misconception.

"If the teeth aren’t shaved,

wouldn’t it actually be easier?"

That’s what they think.

But in reality, it’s the opposite. Because the teeth are not being shaved, even higher technical skill is required.

There are three main reasons for this.

First, you have to work with extremely thin ceramic.

Regular laminates are made 0.5 to 1.0 mm thick, but tooth-prep-free laminates must be much thinner than that.

To create a natural shape without shaving the teeth, ceramic thinner than 0.1 mm is needed...

That is less than one-fifth the thickness of a strand of hair, so it is extremely difficult to handle.

If it is even slightly mishandled, it can break, and even the smallest difference in angle can produce a completely different result. (This is why the dentist’s fingertip sensitivity must be perfect.)

I’ve handled Blancche laminates more than thousands of times,

but I’m always careful... haha

Second, it is difficult to improve adhesion.

Regular laminates are easier to bond because the teeth are shaved first to roughen the surface before attachment.

But tooth-prep-free laminates must be bonded to a smooth tooth surface.

Third, achieving natural color and translucency is at least twice as difficult.

Because the teeth are not shaved, the color of the existing teeth shows through.

The ceramic color and translucency must be adjusted to match that...

Even for me, who performs laminates every day, this is one of the top 1 most difficult tasks. ^^;

Natural teeth are not simply white. They have subtle shading and a translucent feel.

That kind of natural appearance has to be recreated with ceramic thinner than 0.1 mm.

How do you find a clinic with the right skill? Tooth-prep-free laminates

If you’ve read this far, many of you are probably thinking something like this.

"...So if I want proper tooth-prep-free laminates,

I need to go somewhere with real technical skill?"

"How can I find a dental clinic

that truly has that?"

A very reasonable question

You don’t need to overcomplicate it.

Before choosing a clinic, take a look at that clinic’s treatment philosophy and methods.

These days, most dental clinics operate a website or blog, so it shouldn’t be hard to check.

Even for me, I believe that people who visit Blancche need to come in understanding,

"Ah, so this is how they do it here."

That’s what builds trust, so I make sure to record these things in detail on the blog. (Even on YouTube... haha)
