Recommended No-Prep Veneers

Hello.
I am Kim Tae-hyung, Chief Director of Blanche Dental Clinic.
"Is it really possible without filing the teeth at all?"
"I went after getting recommended no-prep veneers, but...
in the end, they still filed them a little."
This is one of the questions I hear most often these days in the clinic.
Because teeth do not grow back once they are filed down,
I completely understand the desire to preserve them as much as possible.
I deeply empathize with that feeling as well.
To say the conclusion first...
There are indeed cases where it is possible without filing the teeth at all.
Of course, not everyone falls into that category, but...
many of the patients I have met in clinical practice were treated without having their teeth filed.
I will explain below which patients can be recommended no-prep veneers. ^^

- Can you look better
without filing the teeth?
No-Prep Veneers Recommendation

In the past, it was common to file down quite a bit of tooth structure for veneer procedures.
That was to prevent the mouth from looking protruded or the teeth from appearing too thick.
But these days, the technology and materials have changed a lot.
As it has become possible to bond high-strength ceramic that is 0.01 mm thick, thinner than a sheet of paper, to the tooth surface...
we have entered an era where a bright and smooth impression can be created without removal.

Because the light reflection and texture are close to those of natural teeth, it can be expressed very naturally to the point that it is almost impossible to distinguish just by looking at the teeth.
However, for this approach to be possible, a process of precise analysis of the lip line, gum line, and even the angle of the teeth is necessary.
So the word "no-prep" is...
closer to "possible when removal is not necessary" rather than "not doing it at all."
- For whom are
no-prep veneers recommended?
No-Prep Veneers Recommendation

Then for which patients can no-prep veneers be recommended?
Representative cases include the following.
-
Cases where there is enough overall space between the teeth
-
Cases where the front teeth are not severely protruded
-
Cases where aesthetic improvement in tooth color or shape is desired, but there are no major functional issues
In these cases, it is possible to avoid significantly altering the teeth...
and adjust the smile line or lip appearance naturally by attaching ceramic.

On the other hand, if the teeth are heavily crowded, protrusion is severe, or the design needs to make very large teeth look smaller...
some removal may be necessary.
What is important is that even when removal is needed...
adjustments are made within the 0.1 mm range, within the enamel, so the approach is focused on preserving the health and function of the teeth as much as possible.
While preserving the structure and function of the teeth as much as possible...
creating a natural smile
is the top priority. haha
In fact, many patients who fell within those criteria
experienced a noticeably changed impression without altering their teeth at all.
- In these cases,
no-prep treatment may be enough.

For example,
patients whose front teeth were small, making their smile look flat when they laughed,
patients whose overall alignment was fine but whose tooth color was dull...
or patients who felt their image was not clean because of relatively yellowish tooth color.
In such cases, there were no major functional problems with the teeth...
but the stronger concern was wanting to smile confidently or have a brighter, neater impression.
Even without removal, through thin ceramic...
the impression of undersized teeth could be improved, or the impression could change enough just by improving the color.

Of course, these changes do not happen simply by attaching thin ceramic.
Because the teeth are left intact, a delicate process of analyzing and adjusting the lip line, gum line, tooth angle, and alignment is necessary.
At Blanche, we approach design based on the harmony of the entire smile,
and to find the most natural and suitable impression for each person...
we use a 3D digital analysis system for precise diagnosis.
And all of these designs are completed as one finished result in our in-house laboratory, Blanche Lab.

No-prep veneers do not simply mean not filing the teeth...
I think of them as a process of finding the direction that is possible while caring for the teeth.
They are not applicable to everyone,
but if the conditions are right,
it is possible to expect satisfying results without removal.
The most important thing is to accurately determine which method suits the current condition of the teeth.
