Hello.
I am Kim Tae-hyung, the chief dentist at Blanche Dental Clinic, who studies smiles.
A patient came to see me not long ago.
And then asked me this question.
"Doctor,
I looked online,
and it says no-prep looks unnatural..
Will it be okay?"
They were considering no-prep laminate veneers because they were hesitant to have their teeth shaved down,
but at the same time, the disadvantages of no-prep laminate veneers were bothering them.^^;
This is practically a regular question.
It is something many people are truly worried about.

In fact, when I first started no-prep laminate veneers, I had similar doubts.
I wondered whether it was really possible to create beautiful results without shaving the teeth at all.ㅎㅎ..
But now I think I can answer confidently.
Let me honestly share what I have felt after performing more than 10,000 procedures.
To give you the conclusion quickly, there is a solution for this too.
So please focus just a little.

- I will answer the Top 3 questions
As I have spent a long time studying and researching laminate veneers...
I often hear a wide variety of questions.ㅎㅎ
Among them, there are three questions that come up very often.
The first concern is whether the teeth will look protruded.
Because the method adds material on top without shaving the teeth,
people think it will become thicker.
In fact, this was a real issue in the past.
There were cases where it became more than 0.5 mm thicker and created an unnatural protruding appearance.

Another concern is that it will come off easily.
Since the tooth surface is not shaved, you may naturally worry that the bonding strength will be weak..
This was also a real problem in early no-prep laminate veneers.
There were indeed cases where problems appeared quickly and the veneers came off.

Lastly, there is the worry of what if it looks unnatural..?
Because there is an absolute thickness when adding material without shaving the teeth,
it is reasonable to worry about unnaturalness.
These worries are thoughts anyone could have.
I also worried about them before.
But first, I want to say that this is something limited to the past.^^;
Things have changed quite a lot now.
Let me explain right away how they have changed.

- In the end, only 'this' needs to be solved
All of the problems I mentioned above are due to thickness.
Because no-prep laminate veneers themselves are thick..
they create a protruding look,
look unnatural,
and at the same time have weaker bonding.
So what is the solution?
Of course, it is to reduce the thickness.ㅎㅎ;

But still, people keep hearing about the disadvantages of no-prep laminate veneers here and there.
What this means is,
reducing the thickness itself is very difficult.
In fact, making ceramic thin is a very delicate task.
The thinner it is, the easier it breaks.
Even the dental lab says it is too thin to make easily.

I also think I had many breakages and failures in this area.
Now, I have found a way to shave only about 0.1 mm,
or to make it look natural even without shaving at all.ㅎㅎ..
I also completely changed the bonding method.
It was not an easy process, but I want to say that it is not impossible at all.

- Disadvantages of no-prep laminate veneers? What kind of clinic should you go to?
As I mentioned, not every dental clinic has improved the disadvantages of no-prep laminate veneers.
So when choosing a clinic, you should definitely check what technology they use to overcome the old drawbacks.
Not all no-prep treatments are the same simply because they are called no-prep.

No-prep laminate veneers certainly have many advantages.
They remove less of the natural tooth.
The recovery period is not long,
and there is less discomfort after the procedure.
However, if done incorrectly, the disadvantages can also be quite significant.
So I hope you will focus on how the old disadvantages were overcome.
There is no need to be scared in advance and avoid the procedure just because of the disadvantages!

Today I spoke honestly about the disadvantages of no-prep laminate veneers.
Among the many dental clinics that are popping up everywhere,
please visit a place that can properly perform laminate veneer treatment.
As I explained, the disadvantages of no-prep laminate veneers may not seem that big..
but when you actually experience them, they become very noticeable and stressful.
