Since I work in aesthetic treatment,
I’ve become more interested in art.^^..
This is a drawing I made myself.
Whenever I have time,
I draw from time to time.
Nice to meet you.
I’m Kim Tae-hyung, the chief director of Blanche Dental Clinic.^^
"Doctor, won’t it hurt if I get laminate veneers?"
"They say the teeth are shaved down—will everything be okay later?"
These are the most common questions about laminate veneers that I hear in the treatment room.ㅎㅎ
What many people worrying about this tend to overlook is:

It’s how much of the tooth is removed.
Right now, I’ll honestly talk as a practicing doctor about the most important things to watch out for with laminate veneers.
I think after reading this, your worries about laminate veneers will be greatly reduced.
- Front teeth laminate veneers?
What matters more than reviews?

When many people choose a laminate veneer dental clinic, they first check the price or reviews.
Of course, those are important factors, but the most important part is often overlooked.ㅠㅠ
A typical example is how much natural tooth can be preserved.
In general, laminate veneers are done by shaving about 0.5–1.0 mm off the front surface of the tooth.
Just looking at the number, it seems very small.^^;
It’s less than 1 mm, but that is exactly the key point.

Considering that the enamel, the outermost layer of our teeth, has an average thickness of 1.5 mm,
with the traditional method, up to 70% of the enamel is removed.
Teeth shaved this way can show various problems over time.
When drinking cold water, sensitivity may appear,
and as the gums gradually recede upward, the teeth start to look longer...

In severe cases, the laminate veneer may come off or nerve damage may occur.
The most unfortunate part is that these problems do not appear immediately after the procedure.
They usually begin to show up one by one after 6 months to 1 year,
and by then, it’s already too late.
- Laminate veneer side effects,
Check the amount of tooth removal to avoid them
So can you get satisfying results while shaving less of the tooth?
The answer is yes.
However, there are strict conditions for this.ㅠㅠ

First, you need to use a ceramic material thinner than a strand of hair.
If you want to minimize tooth reduction, you naturally need a laminate veneer that is that thin.
However, the thinner the ceramic, the more difficult it is to make and the easier it is to break.
To handle such thin ceramic, a precise dental lab system must be in place.
A process for custom-making it to fit each patient’s tooth condition is also necessary.

There are limits to simple mass-production methods.
Our clinic also recognized these issues and manufactures restorations in our own Blanche Lab.
This is based on know-how gained from about 10,000 procedures.^^;
I wrote a separate column about this, so please refer to it.
<If you want to know more about no-prep laminate veneers, "Blanche">
- Please make sure to check this one thing
If you are considering laminate veneers, I hope you will definitely check the following two things.
Please see what kind of technical capabilities the clinic you visit has for preserving natural teeth.
Not just a place that simply uses the word "no-prep,"
but whether it actually has a system capable of handling thin ceramic is what matters.

You should also check whether there is a dental lab system that can support this.
Please check whether they have an in-house lab and directly manage quality,
and whether custom individual fabrication is possible.
These efforts may cost more and take more time at first,
but I have seen far too many people suffer after laminate veneers were done poorly.ㅠㅠ

So please be sure to check.
