Hello. We are Gangnam Blanche Dental Clinic, which prioritizes the natural health of your teeth above all else.
Recently, among the patients who visit us for consultation about front-tooth cosmetic treatment,
9 out of 10 say something like this:
"Doctor, I absolutely do not want my teeth shaved.
Please do it with no-prep only."
"I saw online that no-prep veneers have
no side effects. Is that true?"
We understand deeply, as dental professionals, the desire to protect your natural teeth.
Being able to become more beautiful without the fear of grinding down healthy teeth is truly an attractive option.
But from the perspective of a doctor who must be responsible for your dental health 10 or 20 years from now,
I’d like to speak a little more honestly and frankly today.

Is unconditional no-prep really the right answer?
Did you know it could actually be harmful to your own teeth?
Today, I’ll organize the side effects of no-prep veneers, along with a checklist of things you must consider for a treatment you won’t regret.
- No-prep is not a 'one-size-fits-all' solution for every tooth.

A "no-prep veneer" is, as the name suggests, a procedure in which a thin ceramic tip (0.1 mm to 0.3 mm) is added on top of the tooth surface without removing tooth structure.
The advantage is that it causes less damage to the tooth, but paradoxically,
this principle of adding something on top of the tooth can sometimes become a disadvantage.

The most common complaints we hear are aesthetic side effects.
- The teeth look bulky
- The mouth looks protruded (protruding mouth)
- The tooth edges look thick and dull
Think about it.
If the teeth are already well aligned, or if there is a slight protrusion, then another thin layer is added on top.
Naturally, the teeth become larger in volume and the mouth line can look awkward.
You may think, "It’s nice that my teeth weren’t shaved," but in the end, every time you look in the mirror, you may feel stressed that "something looks awkward and my lips don’t close comfortably."
This is also one of the side effects we should avoid.
Another important issue is cavities.
If there is already tooth decay and it is covered with veneers without removing any tooth structure,
it may not be visible on the outside, but the decay can continue progressing inside.
In this case, if treatment is delayed over time,
it can eventually lead to a situation where more extensive treatment is needed,
so whether no-prep is appropriate must always be decided after an accurate examination and diagnosis,
in 충분히 상담 with a specialist.
- Gum health is more important than aesthetics

What is more important than aesthetics is gum health.
When natural teeth are reduced and prosthetic treatment is performed,
wear between the natural tooth and the prosthesis can place stress on the surrounding teeth and gums.
Also, food debris can easily get trapped in the space,
and it is not easily removed by brushing.
Over time, bacteria multiply in this area,
causing the gums to become red and swollen (gingivitis), bad breath,
and in severe cases, periodontal disease that can lead to bone loss around the gums.
"I tried to become more beautiful, but my bad breath got worse."
"The gums around my veneers turned dark red."
These kinds of discomfort often occur due to an overly aggressive no-prep procedure that does not suit the condition of your teeth, or because of a less-than-precise bonding process.

No, it does not.
- When there is a gap between teeth
- When the teeth are congenitally small (microdontia)
- When the teeth are tilted inward
For patients with these cases, going no-prep without shaving the teeth can lead to high satisfaction.
The problem is...?
Rather than insisting on no-prep unconditionally, the first step is to get a frank diagnosis of whether your teeth can still look good and stay healthy with a no-prep approach.
Blanche’s solution with a 10-year outlook
Blanche performs no-prep treatment without altering the teeth.
However, during consultations, we do not promise, "We will absolutely do it with no-prep."
That is not a promise made for the patient’s sake,
but merely a sales line that sounds good.

No matter which dental clinic you visit, what matters more than whether it is no-prep or not is how well your teeth are preserved in a healthy state.
Once veneers are bonded, they must be used like part of your own body for nearly 10 years,
or even longer.
If you are tempted by the idea of not shaving the teeth right away
and go ahead with a procedure that does not suit your dental condition,
you may end up paying a much greater cost and going through more pain later, when gum problems or aesthetic dissatisfaction force you to remove the tip and redo the treatment.

Gangnam Blanche Dental Clinic carefully analyzes each patient’s tooth thickness, degree of protrusion, gum line, and even the smile line when they smile, and strives to find the teeth that best fit each patient.
If you’re curious whether your teeth are a case where no-prep is possible,
or whether minimal adjustment is needed,
please feel free to leave a comment anytime.
We will answer sincerely.
Please keep in mind that an accurate diagnosis is the first step toward protecting both beauty and health at the same time! haha
Thank you for reading this long post.
