Hello.
This is Blanche Dental Clinic, where your smile becomes a work of art.
An implant surgery you committed to after much thought,
postoperative care is just as important as the dentist’s skill.
Just following the post-surgery precautions can help prevent side effects
and speed up recovery.
Check out the ‘real’ care tips directly shared by a dentist from Seoul National University now.

- Even if it doesn’t hurt, take the prescribed medication all the way through.
Many people stop taking their medication on their own once the pain goes away.
However, the medication prescribed by the dental clinic includes antibiotics,
which play a very important role in preventing bacterial infection.
Even if it does not hurt, taking it regularly for the prescribed period
is the quickest path to a safe recovery.

- Never spit out blood or saliva; swallow it instead + do not use a straw.
After surgery, while you are biting on the gauze, it is important not to spit out
the blood and saliva that come out, and to swallow them as they are.
Spitting or using a straw creates negative pressure in the mouth,
which can dislodge the clot (blood clot) that is forming.
If bleeding takes longer to stop, recovery will also be delayed, so caution is needed.

- Swelling control: the first 48 hours are the golden time.
After implant surgery, swelling is usually at its worst 2 to 3 days later.
To minimize this, it is best to apply cold compresses with an ice pack
for two days starting immediately after surgery.
If you keep it on for about 10 minutes and then rest for 5 minutes,
recovery and return to daily life will be much faster.

- Alcohol and cigarettes are absolutely off-limits.
"Just one won’t hurt, right?" That thought
can ruin a valuable implant.
Nicotine constricts blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the gums,
and alcohol causes inflammation, which interferes with the implant’s
integration into the bone.
For healthy recovery, it is best to avoid drinking and smoking
for about a month.

- If the bleeding does not stop, please 꼭 visit the clinic.
A little oozing after surgery is normal, but if the bleeding is heavy enough
that blood pools inside the mouth, it may mean the bleeding has not
been properly controlled.
In such cases, do not panic. Place a fresh piece of gauze
accurately over the surgical site, bite down firmly for about one more hour,
and if it still does not stop, you need to come in for an examination.

- If the swelling spreads or you develop a high fever, please 꼭 let us know.
Swelling around the surgical site is natural, but if it rapidly spreads
to the neck or the entire face, or if severe chills or a high fever appear,
an inflammatory reaction needs to be checked.
It may be a signal from the body’s immune system, so without delay,
inform the medical team in charge of your condition and
receive appropriate care to stay safe.

Blanche Dental Clinic is not just a place that does surgery well.
So that patients do not panic when they return home,
we provide detailed education on postoperative care guidelines tailored to each person’s condition.
By explaining in advance and communicating about changes that may occur after surgery,
our treatment philosophy is to help patients recover in the most comfortable state possible.

The precautions we shared today are actually very basic,
but they are also the hardest to follow.
However, these small habits will determine the lifespan of your implant.
