Many people probably want orthodontic treatment, but don’t want it to be obvious that they’re wearing braces.. Or they worry it might make them look less favorable in social settings.

In particular, orthodontic treatment that is visible can feel a little burdensome for people who meet many others in their work, or for those preparing for an important interview or wedding.

These days, many people look into Invisalign, which is clear and removable, so there’s no need to worry.

Today, we’ll clearly explain the entire process of how Invisalign straightens your teeth, from consultation to wearing the appliance, in 5 steps.

1st step: Oral scan

"Don’t you have to bite into a pink rubber-like material and take impressions to get braces?"

Many people still fear dental visits because of the terrible memory of taking impressions. That unpleasant feeling of the cold material seeming like it might go down your throat—I really hate that too.

Blanche Dental Clinic uses a 3D oral scanner called iTero. It’s expensive, but we brought it in because it’s precise and much more comfortable.. haha

When the iTero’s small camera-like tip scans the inside of the mouth, the patient’s teeth and gums appear on the monitor as a high-resolution 3D image in just a few minutes.

2nd step: Treatment plan

Invisalign appliances are made by the manufacturer, but deciding how the teeth will be moved is the doctor’s role.

Taking the patient’s face shape, the position of the jaw joint, and even the lip line when smiling into consideration, we create a 100% customized treatment plan.

3rd step: ClinCheck simulation

4th step: Full-scale start

Once the appliance arrives from the U.S. headquarters, the orthodontic treatment begins in earnest. To move the teeth effectively, two preparation steps may be needed.

① Attachment placement

To help the clear aligner grip the smooth teeth well and apply force, small tooth-colored bumps (handles) are attached to the tooth surface.

They’re very small and not very noticeable, so don’t worry!

② Interproximal reduction (IPR)

Teeth need space in order to move. If there isn’t enough space, a process called IPR is performed to very slightly shape the area between teeth by an amount roughly equal to the thickness of a hair.

This is done only within a safe range that does not harm dental health.

5th step: The most important thing is the patient’s effort

Invisalign’s advantage is that it can be removed and put back in, but the downside is that if you don’t wear it, your teeth won’t move.

• Wearing time: Except during meals and brushing, the aligners must be worn for at least 20–22 hours a day for the teeth to move as planned.

• Cleaning care: Gently clean them under running lukewarm water. (Hot water is prohibited because it can deform the appliance!)

• Drink caution: If you drink hot coffee, sugary beverages, curry, or similar foods/drinks while wearing the aligners, the appliance may become stained or cavities may develop. Please remove them whenever you consume anything other than water.
