What Are Minimal-Preparation Veneers?

Minimal-preparation veneers refer to a treatment approach that improves aesthetics while reducing the removal of natural tooth structure as much as possible within an appropriate range.

A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of ceramic veneer systems analyzed 29 clinical studies. The results showed that ceramic veneers had a high survival rate of approximately 93–97% even after more than 10 years of follow-up. Lithium disilicate-based veneers, in particular, were reported to have relatively fewer long-term complications.

Another long-term follow-up study found a tendency toward more stable outcomes when enamel was preserved as much as possible than when there was extensive dentin exposure.

In other words, these findings suggest that good results are likely determined less by which material is used than by:

• How precisely the bonding process was performed
