Among the elements that make up the side profile of the face, the position of the chin tip is important.
If the chin tip is positioned far forward, it gives the impression of a protruding jaw and creates a stronger, somewhat more masculine image.
If the chin tip is positioned somewhat farther back, the face may tend to look younger and cuter, but if it is located too far back, the impression can appear blurred and easily look dull.
In such cases, there are broadly two ways to move the chin tip forward.
First, implant insertion
- This is a relatively simple procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia (sedation anesthesia) by inserting an implant in front of the chin bone. However, a drawback is that because it is not the patient’s own tissue, the frequency of inflammation may be somewhat higher, and the patient’s own front chin bone that contacts the implant gradually undergoes erosion over time, like a crater.
Second, a method in which the patient’s own chin bone is horizontally cut and moved forward
- Because this is a surgery in which the patient’s own bone is moved forward, the frequency of side effects or complications is extremely low, so it is the most ideal method; however, it is safer to perform the surgery under general anesthesia.

When the chin length is normal but the chin tip is positioned farther back

When the front chin length is long and positioned farther back - shorten the length while moving it forward.
