Recently, after seeing cases of people suffering from dissatisfied results or functional problems following facial contouring surgery at various hospitals using various methods,
I have organized some sincere advice for those who are considering facial contouring surgery.
In my opinion,
when deciding whether to undergo facial contouring surgery,
the hospitals that should be avoided or approached with caution are the following:
1. Hospitals that promote laser facial contouring surgery
2. Hospitals that promote non-fixed cheekbone reduction surgery or excessively short operation times
3. Places where the cost of facial contouring surgery is excessively low compared to the general standard
In my view,
rather than choosing surgery at the hospitals above,
it would be better to invest the cost and time for surgery elsewhere.
The reasons are as follows.
1. Hospitals that promote "laser facial contouring surgery"
It has already been more than 10 years since the “water-drop laser” was introduced in the field of facial contouring surgery.
Even 8 years ago, there were many hospitals that made laser facial contouring surgery the main focus of their promotion,
and they competed to use it as a key marketing point.
Even then, surgeons knew that using a laser to cut hard, thick cortical bone involved
many inconveniences and limitations,
and it was common to only pretend to use a laser while carrying out the entire surgery with a vibrating saw.
In the end, the promotional tool called laser facial contouring surgery was proven to be
a low-grade marketing technique that merely covered up the truth,
and the number of hospitals promoting laser facial contouring surgery gradually decreased.
However, there are still hospitals that carry out
a childish and low-quality promotion of “laser facial contouring surgery,”
and in my opinion, such hospitals
are starting from false explanations from the very beginning of the surgical method,
so they can be said to belong to the first group of hospitals that people considering the major decision of facial contouring surgery should be cautious about.
2. Hospitals that promote excessively short operation times and non-fixed cheekbone reduction surgery
Over the years, while seeing numerous consultation patients for revision facial contouring surgery,
I have often felt a tightness in my chest and rising anger.
The reason was that I was seeing people suffering because of irresponsible surgery,
and in some cases, situations where restoration through revision surgery was almost impossible.
The 3D CT images below are postoperative 3D CT scans of people who underwent minimally invasive, non-fixed cheekbone reduction surgery,
and even now I am shocked that there are hospitals producing such results through promotions that claim absurdly low surgery costs and short operation times.

In the above 3D CT images, you can observe that part of the cheekbone inside the red line has completely melted away and disappeared.
If the surgery is performed through a minimally invasive incision of about 5 mm inside the mouth and in a non-fixed manner, the operation can be finished in about 10 minutes,
but if it leads to such results, it may cause an unfortunate outcome that cannot be reversed at all.
This is another case.
If you look closely at the cheekbone area inside the red line in the above 3D CT,
you can see that the bone is broken into several pieces, and some of the fragments have fallen downward.
In such cases, the non-fixed bone fragments are likely to melt away and be absorbed over time.
Such surgery is less like cheekbone reduction surgery and more like a complex fracture caused by an accident or trauma.
3. Places where the cost of facial contouring surgery is excessively low compared to the general standard
Facial contouring surgery is a procedure that requires a great deal of experience and precision because it must be performed in a limited field of view in order to shape the facial bones surrounded by the soft tissues of the face (skin, fat, muscles, and so on)
without leaving surgical marks on the outside.
The points that must be carefully considered while refining facial bones in a limited field of view are
the airway (respiratory tract) near the surgical area and the important surrounding large blood vessels and nerves.
Therefore, for more precise surgery,
there are basic required operation times and preparations,
and to perform surgery while adhering to these requirements,
more material costs are needed compared to surgeries in other areas.
If there are places where the cost of facial contouring surgery is excessively low,
it is necessary to clearly ask whether the surgery is being performed too imprecisely and carelessly.
It is necessary to clearly compare the 3D CT scans before and after surgery,
and to verify how well the surgeon’s preoperative successful case examples shown before surgery correspond to
your own preoperative and postoperative 3D CT scans.
