Q.
I was told that there is 9cc on each side of the buccal fat pad and that only about 4–5cc is removed, but I heard that the buccal fat pad is 9cc when combined with other tissue. I’ve also heard that most of it is removed. Does removing just 4–5cc still make a big difference? Does the amount removed vary from person to person? I have a lot of cheek fat—if all the cheek fat is removed, won’t I end up looking gaunt? I’m really worried ㅜㅠ Please give me detailed information so I can feel sure about buccal fat removal.

Hello, I’m Jeong Jae-young, director of Lavian Plastic Surgery.
The amount of buccal fat varies greatly from person to person.
I think the figure of 9cc was something someone else mentioned after referring to my blog.
In fact, it is now very hard to find supporting papers, and I only came across the information by chance a long time ago and organized it for myself.
So I think many people have probably organized their own information by referring to what was introduced on my blog.
There are many overall differences, but statistically, it is said to be about 9cc on one side.
Saying that it is 9cc when combined with some other property is truly absurd. (If a doctor said that, I think they would have very little medical knowledge.)
It is not possible to remove all of the buccal fat pad. - This is where the misunderstanding arises^^
In most cases, people think that they have removed it all through the inside of the mouth, but then wonder, why does it amount to about 9cc on one side?
If someone has properly understood the content of my blog, I believe I would have explained the right information to those considering surgery...ㅠㅠㅠ
Generally, the buccal fat pad consists of a body and three tail portions.
The buccal fat pad we remove through the inside of the mouth can only remove the body portion of the buccal fat pad and the tail portion that protrudes toward the buccal area, so the actual amount removed is about 3–5cc per side.
The more important point is to have a clear understanding of which areas become smaller when the buccal fat pad is removed.
Buccal fat removal surgery produces definite changes after surgery, but if not careful, the area below the cheekbone on the side may look hollow.
Therefore, I think that a proper consultation with an experienced specialist should come first to confirm whether the area you want to reduce is actually the location of the buccal fat pad, so that you do not regret the surgery afterward.
