Female Hump Nose Surgery: A Refined Curved Nasal Bridge

  Now is an era when people of all ages and genders care about their appearance.

affecting the nasolabial angle, meaning the angle of the philtrum, which can make the nose look like an arrow nose.

This can create a stubborn, older-looking, and somewhat harsh impression,

so it is not a preferred shape.

In animation, witches or villains are often depicted with hump noses.

In Western people, a hump nose is usually caused by the middle part of the nose being higher than the rest.

In East Asian people, however, the middle part of the nose is often relatively lower than the tip or the uppermost part of the nose,

so the nose can appear like a drooping hump nose.

Because this hump nose condition appears even more pronounced from the side,

many people lack confidence in their side profile.

  A hump nose can be caused by congenital reasons, such as only the nasal bone or cartilage protruding, or both protruding;

or by acquired factors, such as a strong impact to the nose during growth,

or damage to the bone and cartilage from an accident or trauma;

or by damage to the supporting structure of the nose due to incorrect rhinoplasty.

When it comes to the nose, the preferred size and angle differ between men and women.

Unlike men, women tend to prefer a nose shape with a soft curved line that flows smoothly from the forehead to the tip of the nose.

If there is a protruding hump on the bridge, it can create a masculine, tough, and strong image. 

Although there is a fixed idea that hump noses are a male nose shape,

In women with a hump nose, the hump is usually not as severe as in men,

but surgery should be performed while considering the thickness, length, and angle of the nasal bone, as well as the overall facial skeleton and other characteristics unique to women.

  At our clinic, in order to create a delicate, safe, and natural nose line,

we use different methods depending on the type.

First, in the case of a hump nose with a low between-the-eyebrows area,

we simply remove only the protruding bump or raise the between-the-eyebrows area and the tip of the nose using autologous cartilage.

If necessary, we may also use an implant through consultation in order to raise the bridge of the nose.

When the between-the-eyebrows area is moderately high and the hump is severe,

we cut away the protruding hump area on the bridge of the nose along with the bone and cartilage.

After cutting, we also smooth the irregular bone surface evenly to restore the appropriate shape of the nasal bridge.

When the hump is severe and the nasal bone itself is wide and large,

the bridge of the nose may look wider after the hump is removed.

In such cases, we perform osteotomy to narrow the wide nasal bone. 

If the between-the-eyebrows area is very high but the tip of the nose appears drooped,

we remove the protruding bump and use autologous cartilage to make the tip of the nose more refined and elevated.

The key point is to match the high between-the-eyebrows area to the bridge while carefully adjusting the angle of the tip so the nose does not look too large,

and we recommend avoiding implants on the bridge whenever possible.

  When you look at the surgical methods, you may worry about female hump nose surgery involving osteotomy of the nasal bone.

In the past, it was considered very complex and was performed under general anesthesia,

but recently, due to advances in surgical methods and instruments, it can be done very simply, with little swelling and almost no pain from the osteotomy.
