Can Eyelid Fat Grafting Restore Volume?

The word “youthful” is always exciting to hear. Looking younger than your age is something everyone wants to be told. There are many conditions for looking youthful. A even skin tone, no hair loss or gray hair, some facial fullness, not having a long philtrum, and several other factors.

Among them, the area that concerns the most people is the eyes. The eyes are not only the sensory organ responsible for vision, but also where people first direct their gaze when they see someone, so many people pay close attention to their eyes.

The 기준 for youthful-looking eyes can be said to lie more than anything in the volume of the eyelids, and as people age, the volume of the upper eyelids decreases, which is why more and more people want to improve this. When the eyes appear sunken, they can look older and more tired than they really are. So why does this upper eyelid hollowing happen?

  The most common reason for upper eyelid hollowing is aging.

As we get older, cells stop being produced and begin to die.

The same is true of fat cells.

As fat cells die, subcutaneous fat disappears, and volume is lost overall.

In particular, the eye area is a region that moves a lot,

and because it is the area where the skin on the face is thinnest, hollowing occurs more easily.

There are also various other reasons.

For those who say that sunken eyes occurred even though they are relatively young,

subcutaneous fat may have disappeared due to excessive dieting, leading to hollowing.

And for genetic reasons,

or due to lifestyle habits such as rubbing the eyes, this hollowing phenomenon can occur.

 

Eyelid hollowing not only gives an outward impression of fatigue and making you look older than you are,

but can also cause functional problems.

As the strength used to open the eyes weakens, it can lead not only to eye fatigue but also

dry eyes and ptosis, which is why correction is an important area.

Previously, eyelid fat grafting was often used to improve upper eyelid hollowing. Eyelid fat grafting involved harvesting fat from the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks and then separating it and injecting it into the sunken eyelids. However, because this method involves harvesting fat from another area and injecting it, and because the eyes themselves move a lot,

the fat survival rate is low, so more than 50% could settle down again within 1 to 2 months.

In addition, additional fat grafting may be needed, there is a high possibility of adhesion causing an uneven surface, ptosis correction is separately required, and in some cases there were problems in which ptosis symptoms became more severe.

For these reasons, today I would like to introduce a new method called eyelid volume up. Eyelid volume up is another name for eyelid orbital fat repositioning surgery.

This refers to a method of pulling down the fat hidden behind the eyebrows and repositioning it to the sunken eyelid area.

Eyelid volume up removes the cause of hollow eyes and uses the fat tissue around the orbit as much as possible for repositioning, so you do not need to worry about hollowing related to the survival rate.

And improvement is possible with one surgery without additional procedures, and the surface tends to remain smooth without unevenness. In addition, when performing eyelid volume up, ptosis can also be improved through eye correction, so you do not need to worry about ptosis.

Because the degree of volume that needs to be given to each patient’s eyes differs,

it is very important to proceed according to each individual situation.

If the degree of hollowing is not severe,

restoration of eyelid volume and a refreshed eye shape can be achieved with only ptosis correction and surgery to advance and reposition the orbital fat.

If the hollowing is severe,

ptosis correction, orbital fat repositioning, fat grafting, and fat injection may be necessary,

and depending on the condition, microfat grafting and dermis-fat grafting may be used to add volume.
