Eyelid Volume-Up: A More Effective Way to Improve Sunken Eyes Than Eyelid Fat Grafting!

As the times continue to change and time passes,
standards of beauty also change, but there is one standard of beauty that does not change.
That is a youthful appearance.
Not only for the body, but especially on the face, when there is volume in multiple areas,
the face can look more three-dimensional, smaller, more lively, and give a younger-looking impression.
On the face, the eyes in particular are called the windows to the soul,
so they are one of the most important areas on the face.
A lack of facial volume caused by sunken eyes
makes it difficult to create the youthful image that everyone prefers.
In addition, when the eyes look tired or only one eyelid is sunken,
the size and shape of the eyes become different, causing problems such as an unbalanced face.
So why does eyelid hollowing occur?

The most common reason for sunken upper eyelids is the aging process, the enemy of youth.
As people age, elastic fibers and collagen fibers in the dermal layer of the skin become denatured,
which reduces elasticity and causes facial volume to disappear.
One of the changes that occurs in that process is hollowing of the upper eyelids.
Even in relatively young people who complain of sunken eyes,
causes can include excessive dieting for a slim body,
wrong lifestyle habits such as rubbing the eyes, or genetic reasons.
In the case of eyelid hollowing, it can make a person look tired and older than they actually are,
and functionally, because it becomes harder to open the eyes,
it can also cause eye strain, dry eyes, and even ptosis, so correction is definitely needed.

In the past, eyelid fat grafting may have been commonly planned as a way to improve sunken eyes,
but today I would like to introduce Eyelid Volume-Up, a more advanced technique than eyelid fat grafting.
Eyelid Volume-Up is also called eyelid orbital fat repositioning surgery.
As the name suggests, it is a method of giving volume to sunken eyelids by repositioning orbital fat.

You may be wondering what orbital fat is.
Orbital fat refers to the fat around the eyes,
and Eyelid Volume-Up is performed by pulling down the fat hidden behind the eyebrows
and repositioning it to the sunken eyelid area.

You may be wondering why I am introducing Eyelid Volume-Up instead of the more commonly performed eyelid fat grafting.
In the case of eyelid fat grafting,
fat was harvested from areas with abundant fat such as the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks,
then separated and injected into the sunken eyelids.
However, because the fat is harvested from another area,
the survival rate of the injected fat is low,
and more than 50% can settle down within 1 to 2 months.
In some cases, there was a high possibility of adhesions that made the surface look uneven.
In addition, additional fat grafting may be needed,
and in some cases, ptosis symptoms caused by hollow upper eyelids could become more severe,
which meant there was also the burden of having to undergo separate ptosis correction.
By contrast, Eyelid Volume-Up
maximizes the use of the fat tissue around the orbit and repositions it,
so there is no need to worry about the survival rate of the fat.
Also, the surface tends to be even without irregularities,
recovery time is shorter than with eyelid fat grafting,
and improvement can be achieved with one surgery without additional surgery.

In particular, for hollow upper eyelids, it is important to perform customized surgery according to the case.
At our clinic, for a precise and natural eye line,
we provide different approaches depending on the degree of hollowness.
First, to put it simply, it can be divided into two cases.
When the degree of hollowness is not severe,
volume in the eyelid area can be restored and a refreshed eye shape completed with only ptosis correction and surgery that advances and repositions the orbital fat.
When the degree of hollowness is severe,
ptosis correction, orbital fat repositioning, fat grafting, and fat injection are needed.
Also, depending on the condition, it is important to add volume using microfat grafting and dermal-fat grafting.

It may sound very simple when explained in words,
but for the process of cleanly separating and repositioning the fat to proceed smoothly,
it is important to receive treatment from an experienced medical team.
