[April 31 Plastic Surgery, Paper on Revision Rhinoplasty Using Autologous Dermis and Fat Grafting Published in SCIE International Journal]
The paper by Dr. Kim Jae-hoon, Dr. Park Seong-wan, and Dr. Go Hyo-seon of April 31 Plastic Surgery, titled "Revision Rhinoplasty Using Dermofat Grafting," has been published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the journal of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, one of the world’s top three plastic surgery journals.
Autologous dermis and fat grafting is a surgical method that can be very useful not only when problems such as inflammation or contracture caused by artificial implants occur, but also when the nasal skin and soft tissue have become thin due to repeated revision surgeries, or when previously placed artificial implants or cartilage grafts are unnaturally visible.

The biggest drawback of conventional autologous dermis surgery was the graft’s resorption rate and the difficulty of predicting the postoperative shape. However, at April 31 Plastic Surgery, by selecting the appropriate donor site, using a delicate harvesting method, and applying a "molding technique," the resorption rate of the autologous dermal tissue was minimized and shape predictability was improved, resulting in better aesthetic outcomes.
Dermofat is mainly harvested from the area around the coccyx in the buttocks, and at April 31 Plastic Surgery, a specialized surgical design method was used to minimize scarring and ensure that it could be sufficiently concealed by underwear.
Autologous dermal tissue is a safe and effective material with no foreign-body reaction and is one of the materials frequently used in revision surgery. It is suitable for cases where revision surgery is desired due to side effects such as inflammation or contracture, or when a more natural-looking nose surgery result is desired.
In particular, based on extensive clinical experience with autologous dermis grafting, April 31 Plastic Surgery can perform more safe and satisfying revision rhinoplasty while minimizing the drawbacks and side effects of existing surgical methods.
Dr. Kim Jae-hoon, head of April 31 Plastic Surgery, said, "In the past, autologous dermis rhinoplasty was considered safe but had a high resorption rate, so the results were perceived as less satisfying than implant surgery." He added, "However, as the surgical method has advanced over more than a decade, we now proceed with surgery after accurately assessing outcome factors such as the patient’s dermal thickness, resorption rate, and graft take rate, which has further improved safety and patient satisfaction." He also said, "We will continue our ongoing research and academic activities."
Meanwhile, Dr. Kim Jae-hoon, who has focused on rhinoplasty for more than 20 years, has consistently engaged in research and academic activities, publishing numerous SCI papers, including in PRS, one of the world’s most prestigious journals, and authoring books on rhinoplasty. He served as president of the Rhinoplasty Research Group of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons from 2010 to 2012, and as president of the International Seoul Rhinoplasty Forum in 2012.
