A hump nose, is it enough to just shave it down?

In the case of a hump nose, apart from the protruding hump bone,

the nasal tip is often drooping.

This drooping tip often makes the hump appear even more prominent.

So in these cases, if the hump is shaved straight to match the nasal tip,

the bridge may end up looking lower overall.

Also, not only does the bridge become lower,

but the nose itself may look longer, so simply shaving down the hump

may not be a good option.

Of course, not every hump nose is better suited to this surgical approach.

If the existing bridge is high and the nasal tip is not drooping,

osteotomy alone may still achieve the desired result to some extent.

But for people with a drooping nasal tip,

raising the tip reduces the amount of hump that needs to be removed, so

lifting the tip and shaving less of the hump may be the better option.

When the nasal tip is raised as well,

less of the hump needs to be shaved down,

so the existing bridge height can be preserved as much as possible,

the bridge can look higher,

and the angle can be adjusted in the desired direction more easily.
