Hello. This is Ainique.
Among the various plastic surgery procedures performed at Ainique Plastic Surgery Clinic,
a specialist clinic for eye plastic surgery,
one of the procedures I am most confident in,
despite its level of difficulty,
is sausage eye revision surgery.
“Sausage eyes” is a side effect that often appears after double eyelid surgery.
It is a term used to describe eyelids with a double eyelid line
that look thick and unnatural, like a sausage.
If you wanted a natural and beautiful result
but ended up with swollen-looking eyes,
of course your satisfaction will be very low.
That is why many people undergo revision surgery
in order to create the desired double eyelid shape again.
Today, let’s look at why sausage eyes occur,
and what process is needed to correct them
through revision surgery.

Sausage eyes is a term for eyes that have become thick, puffy,
and unnatural after double eyelid surgery.
In medical terms, it is called “double eyelid hypertrophy” or
“pretarsal fullness,” and the causes can be broadly classified into three types.
- An excessively high double eyelid line
A double eyelid becoming overly thick is often due to
the line being too high.
- Ptosis was not corrected
If you have ptosis and only undergo double eyelid surgery
without correcting it,
sausage eyes may result.
- Lack of fat above the eyes
When there is little fat above the eyes and the area looks sunken,
the double eyelid line may appear larger than it actually is.
Depending on these three major causes,
the revision methods for sausage eyes are also performed differently.
From here, let’s take a closer look at the revision methods
for each type.
A double eyelid is very important to design at an appropriate size
from the very first surgery.
If it is too thin, it may look like an inner double eyelid
and have almost no effect, but on the other hand,
if it is too thick, it becomes unnatural sausage eyes.
When sausage eyes are caused by a double eyelid line that is too high,
the line is lowered so the double eyelid becomes thinner,
but the revision method is adjusted depending on
how much extra eyelid skin is available.
If there is sufficient skin, surgery is performed to lower the height of the double eyelid
by excising the skin between the existing high line
and the desired lower line.
Then, as the line is lowered,
the sausage eye appearance can be resolved naturally.
However, if there is not enough skin available, excision is not possible,
and the double eyelid line cannot easily be lowered.
In such cases, an unavoidable method, also called “double-line creation,”
is used. This involves making an incision along a new line
and releasing the upper existing line by dissecting it.
This procedure is a highly advanced method used only when there is insufficient skin,
and because of the possibility of recurrence and scarring,
it must be performed by an experienced surgeon.

Ptosis, the second cause of sausage eyes,
is when the muscle strength used to open the eyes is weak.
Even if the double eyelid is not high,
the eyes may not open fully, making them look thick.
Since eye-opening correction is still possible even after double eyelid surgery,
in such cases, undergoing eye-opening correction as part of sausage eye revision surgery
can strengthen the ability to open the eyes,
and the double eyelid line will naturally become thinner as well.
Ainique has particular expertise in the field of non-incisional eye-opening correction
and has performed many related surgeries,
so when sausage eyes are caused by ptosis,
satisfying improvement can be achieved through eye-opening correction.

Lastly, when there is insufficient fat above the eyes,
the double eyelid may also appear larger than it really is.
This happens because a double eyelid is a “crease” of the eyelid,
and when the folded part of the line covers the lower area,
if there is not enough fat above the line,
it becomes a sunken shape, known as a “sunken eyelid.”
If there is a lack of eyelid fat, it can be improved by
filling the area above the eyes with fat or filler
through a procedure to add volume.
Because good results require the right amount
placed in the correct location during the procedure,
it is safer to receive treatment from an expert
with extensive revision surgery experience.
If sausage eye revision surgery is needed,
it is generally possible starting six months after surgery,
when the hard scar tissue begins to soften.
However, if the side effects from the surgical result are severe
or if normal social life is not possible,
revision surgery can be performed regardless of timing.
Consultation about the exact surgical possibility and expected results
is only possible after an expert’s diagnosis.
If you are troubled by sausage eyes,
we recommend visiting the clinic for a consultation
so that you can receive revision surgery at the appropriate time.
