Hello, this is AINIQUE.
These days, double eyelid surgery is sometimes even referred to as a procedure,
and it has become a cosmetic surgery that is commonly performed compared to the past.
However, as it is a surgery that many people choose,
there are also more people suffering from side effects or scars, so caution is needed.
Today, together with AINIQUE, a specialist in eye plastic surgery,
we will look into why double eyelid scars occur
and discuss ways to help prevent them.

Double eyelid scars often occur when the line is fixed too deeply during double eyelid surgery,
and the representative symptoms include sunken double eyelid scars and eyelash eversion.
A double eyelid is made by
fixing the skin at the desired crease height to the inside,
usually to the tarsal plate.
It is this process
that determines the depth of the double eyelid depending on where it is fixed.
At this time, if the eyelid is pulled upward and fixed,
the double eyelid becomes deeper,
which can lead to sunken scars and eyelash eversion.
When the eyelid is pulled upward,
the skin becomes tight,
and in severe cases even the eyelashes
move upward and become everted.
As the double eyelid becomes deeper and the eyelashes are lifted,
the mucosa is also exposed, and accordingly the eyeballs can
become dry, so caution is needed.

When these symptoms appear, lowering the fixation point slightly so that it is not under tension
and making the double eyelid shallower
can help resolve the problem of eyelash eversion.
However, resolving eyelash eversion is very difficult,
and good results can only be achieved with a great deal of accumulated know-how.
Among the eye revision surgeries that AINIQUE can confidently recommend,
the two that we are most confident in are the sausage revision surgery that lowers the size of the double eyelid
and the revision surgery that resolves eyelash eversion.
Another is sunken scars, one of the types of double eyelid scars.
This also occurs when the double eyelid is fixed too deeply,
causing a hollow, sunken scar as the crease becomes deeper.
There are two causes of sunken scars.
Either the double eyelid crease is too deep,
or too much tissue beneath the skin was removed.
First, the solution to the first cause is to excise the skin in the sunken area,
then even it out again and suture it smoothly.
The solution to the second cause is to fix the upward-pulled double eyelid
without making it too deep; this is the way to resolve sunken scars.
In other words, sunken scars and eyelash eversion, which occur when the double eyelid is fixed too deeply,
can be resolved by readjusting the depth.

Revision eye surgery to improve double eyelid scars is generally possible after 6 months,
when the hard scar tissue has softened,
but if the symptoms are severe depending on the person,
and normal social life is impossible because of them, revision surgery can be performed regardless of the timing.

To prevent double eyelid scars,
it is important to fix the double eyelid in a natural position.
In the first surgery, the design must follow the skin texture according to the movement of the eyes,
so that no double eyelid scars remain.

There is no single set best method for double eyelid surgery.
Each patient’s eyelid
skin condition, personal tendencies, the desired thickness and shape of the double eyelid,
and the strength used to open the eyes all need to be considered,
and it is important to find the method that suits you best.
