Hello, this is iNique.
The importance of the eye shape is a feature that can greatly influence the overall impression of the face.
This is because the more distinct and glamorous the eye shape is, the more beautiful it can look.

In general, Asian eyes tend to be smaller than Western eyes, and many cases have either no double eyelids at all or only a faint crease. The method most often performed to enlarge small eyes that look flat is double eyelid surgery.

By creating a crease in the eyelid, it makes the eyes look more glamorous and larger. So, if you have a flat monolid eye shape, this may be a method to consider.
Of course, double eyelid surgery is a helpful way to make the eyes look clearer and larger, but because everyone’s eyes have different characteristics and shapes, understanding those differences and combining double eyelid surgery with other effective procedures can also help create more distinct eyes.

For example, if you have already undergone double eyelid surgery but feel that your eye length is too short and wish it were extended, procedures such as lower and outer canthoplasty can be used to design a much more open-looking eye shape.
Today, I will explain the types and methods of lower and outer canthoplasty, which may be helpful for those whose eye shape is still unsatisfactory after double eyelid surgery, or for those whose eyes are short or whose eye corners are excessively upturned.

Canthoplasty refers to a procedure that opens the constricted parts of the eyes, helping create a clearer and more refreshed eye shape.
The canthoplasty procedures currently performed at iNique are broadly divided into four types: mini epicanthoplasty, epicanthoplasty & upper canthoplasty, outer canthoplasty, and lower-outer canthoplasty.
Depending on the individual’s eye condition, the most suitable method can be selected and performed.

Before proceeding with various types such as lower and outer canthoplasty, the important consideration is to find a method that matches the eye shape the individual wants, and to tailor the procedure accordingly.
This is because every person’s features are different.
For example, some people simply have small eyes, while others have small eyes with shorter eye length. There are also people whose eye size is relatively average, but whose eye corners are upturned, making them look sharp.

Considering these various characteristics, the key is to perform customized lower and outer canthoplasty that looks natural and clear.
Among these, the method I want to focus on today is lower and outer canthoplasty, which improves the feeling of tightness around the eyes by opening the area at the outer corner of the eye and the lower eye area.

Outer canthoplasty is a procedure that opens the outer side of the eyes and can help make short eyes appear longer.
However, it is important to perform it very carefully.
This is because complications can occur easily, and in particular, there is a risk of the red tissue of the mucosa, often referred to as the inner flesh, becoming exposed.

This exposure of red tissue can occur during lower and outer canthoplasty when too much skin is removed, causing the mucosa inside to become exposed to the outside.
If conjunctival exposure occurs, the eyes may feel irritated or become bloodshot more easily, and the risk of conjunctivitis also increases, which can cause significant discomfort.

Ultimately, what matters in outer canthoplasty is performing it naturally and stably without excessive exposure of the mucosa.
iNique’s outer canthoplasty separates the skin and mucosa first, then removes only an appropriate amount of mucosa to open the eyes clearly, while keeping the amount of skin removed smaller than the mucosa so that it does not become exposed to the outside.

Next is the lower and outer canthoplasty method.
Simply put, this method uses the principles of lateral canthopexy and lowering the outer corner of the eye, and it is suitable for people whose eye corners are significantly upturned, giving them a fox-like appearance.

Looking at the procedure, the back part is opened using outer canthoplasty, and the eye corner is fixed to the outer bone so that, at a natural angle of about 5 to 10 degrees, the sharp, fox-like impression can be softened while still looking clear.
