Hello.

“Thermage is famous,
so it should be okay to just get it, right?”
During consultations, we often meet people who ask to receive Thermage right away because it is so well known.
When you hear that someone around you had Thermage and their skin became firmer, it is natural to expect a similar effect for yourself.

However, when we actually conduct a consultation, the concern is often not as simple as skin laxity alone.
That is why today, for those considering Thermage,
I would like to discuss several criteria you should review first before deciding on the treatment.
What should you look at first before treatment?
Just because your face looks more sagging than it used to does not mean the cause is always the same.
In some cases, the skin itself has lost elasticity, while in others, reduced volume makes the contours of the face appear more pronounced.
Conversely, your skin elasticity may be fine, but fat around the jawline or the structure of your face may make your overall appearance look heavier and more sagging.

Although these concerns may look similar on the surface, where the change began differs from person to person.
So during a consultation, we first carefully examine which areas of your current facial appearance need to be addressed.
Then we determine whether Thermage is a treatment that suits your current concerns.
Why each area needs to be assessed differently
Thermage is a treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to deliver heat to the skin.
What is important here is that the treatment is not performed in exactly the same way across the entire face.
This is because skin thickness, elasticity, and sensitivity vary somewhat from one area to another, even on the same face.

For example, areas such as the eye area, where the skin is thin and sensitive, may be somewhat more sensitive to stimulation or heat.
Conversely, if an area has relatively thick skin or significantly reduced elasticity, the necessary energy must be considered accordingly.
Therefore, rather than assessing the entire face in the same way,
it is important to examine the thickness and condition of the skin in each area and take an approach suited to those findings.

When will the effects of Thermage become noticeable?
This is another question we receive very often during consultations.
“Doctor, after receiving Thermage,
does the effect appear immediately?”
Some people feel that their skin has become somewhat firmer immediately after treatment,
but not all of the changes from Thermage appear right away.

As the skin continues to recover after the radiofrequency energy is delivered, some people notice changes in elasticity or skin texture over time.
Therefore, rather than making a hasty judgment based only on your appearance immediately after treatment, it is better to allow some time and observe the changes.
Of course, the extent and timing of any changes may vary depending on the condition of each person’s skin.
What if you received Thermage but were disappointed with the results?

Some people tell us that they previously received Thermage but were less satisfied than they expected.
In such cases, rather than immediately thinking,
“Maybe Thermage is not right for me,”
it is necessary to first reconsider what concern you originally wanted to improve with the treatment.

If reduced skin elasticity was the main concern, Thermage may be considered.
However, if reduced facial volume, the amount of fat, or more significant sagging was the greater cause, a different approach may be necessary.
Ultimately, what matters is not which device you chose, but properly identifying the cause of your concern.
The first thing we look at in our clinic is:
“Does this person need Thermage right now?”

Even if a patient wants a particular treatment, if another method is better suited to their current skin condition, I believe the first step is to explain why sufficiently.
Conversely, if Thermage is a good fit, we discuss which areas to focus on
and what degree of change can reasonably be expected before developing a treatment plan.

That is why, rather than deciding on a treatment from the outset,
I believe it is important to first examine which areas of your face need to be addressed now.
If you are considering Thermage, rather than deciding solely because it is a well-known treatment,
please first check whether the changes you want and your current skin condition are a good match.
For results you can remain satisfied with over time,
we will provide only the care that is truly necessary.
