Thread lift bruising and thread lift swelling reduction tips,
Complete pre- and post-procedure care guide for thread lifts
Hello,
This is Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic!
When consulting about thread lifts,
we often hear questions like:
“Will I bruise a lot after a thread lift?”
“How long does swelling last after a thread lift?”
Because a thread lift is a procedure that uses sutures (threads)
to lift sagging tissue,
the degree of thread lift bruising and swelling can vary depending on
an individual’s skin thickness, fat layer, and blood vessel distribution.
Today, from a professional perspective,
we will summarize how to minimize bruising and swelling after a thread lift,
and the key points of pre- and post-procedure care.

- Why thread lift bruising and swelling occur
During a thread lift, as the threads pass beneath the skin,
they can stimulate tiny blood vessels.
As a result, the following reactions may occur:
Bruising: damage to capillaries along the path of the thread
Swelling: tissue irritation and a temporary inflammatory response
Pulling sensation / foreign body sensation: a natural phenomenon
that appears during the initial fixation process of the threads
These reactions are mostly part of a normal recovery process,
and can be reduced quickly depending on how they are managed.
- How to prepare before a thread lift to reduce bruising and swelling
Recovery speed after a thread lift can change significantly
even with good pre-procedure preparation.
- Stop medications and supplements that may cause bruising
Omega-3
Vitamin E
Red ginseng / ginseng products
Some aspirin- and ibuprofen-type medications
These may inhibit blood clotting and increase bruising,
so discontinuing them 3–5 days before the procedure is generally recommended.
※ If you are taking any medication, be sure to consult your doctor
before making adjustments.
-
Avoid alcohol
Alcohol dilates blood vessels and increases swelling,
so it is best to avoid drinking for 48 hours before and after the procedure.
-
Manage sleep and overall condition
Skin regeneration is closely related to your physical condition,
so getting enough sleep and avoiding spicy or salty foods can help.
- Practical care to reduce bruising and swelling after a thread lift
The first 72 hours are especially important for initial recovery after a thread lift.
-
Cold compresses (day 1 to day 2)
Apply for 10 minutes, rest for 10 minutes
Avoid excessive pressure
Constricts blood vessels → helps minimize bruising and swelling
-
Avoid excessive facial expressions and facial massage
Because the threads are still settling,
large smiles, excessive talking, and opening the mouth widely
should be minimized for one week.
-
Correct the habit of sleeping on your side
Pressure can worsen asymmetry and swelling,
so a front-facing sleeping position is recommended.
-
Avoid warm compresses and saunas for a period of time
Because they may dilate blood vessels and increase swelling,
it is best to avoid high-heat environments for about 2–3 weeks.
Precautions after a thread lift procedure
Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic

- Normal reactions during recovery after a thread lift
During recovery, the following symptoms
may commonly appear:
A pulling or tight feeling along the thread line
A pulling sensation when smiling or making facial expressions
Mild pain when pressed
Localized bruising, tenderness
In most cases, these settle over 1–2 weeks,
and improve naturally as the threads become fixed in the tissue.
- Tips for recovering faster after a thread lift
-
Maintain a low-salt diet
Salt intake can make swelling last longer,
so it is best to adjust your meals to be as non-irritating as possible.
-
Drink enough water
Hydration helps tissue recovery and reduces inflammation.
-
Be sure to avoid smoking
Nicotine causes blood vessel constriction and slows tissue regeneration,
which can lead to delayed recovery, prolonged bruising, and increased discomfort.
-
Combine with specialized skin care
With laser care and soothing/regenerative care that help recovery after thread placement,
swelling and heat after a thread lift can be managed much faster.

- Contact the hospital immediately in these cases
Although very rare, if the following symptoms occur,
immediate evaluation is needed.
• Severe pain lasting more than 48 hours
• The thread feels unevenly positioned
• The skin surface turns bluish or becomes excessively red
• Persistent scarring or asymmetry
A thread lift is a safe procedure,
but because individual differences exist,
responding early can help with faster recovery and more natural results.
Thread lift bruising and thread lift swelling can be reduced most effectively when preparation, procedural technique, and aftercare
all work together.
For an accurate analysis and a customized plan before the procedure,
we recommend consulting with a medical professional.
At our Apgujeong Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic,
we carefully evaluate facial anatomy,
insert the threads along the safest path,
and perform the procedure in a way that minimizes swelling and bruising.
