If you are considering thread lifting,
you may have thought about this at least once.
Will my facial expression become awkward after the procedure?
How long will the effect last?
Or will the threads keep building up in my face?
In fact, these concerns are completely natural.
If you search online, there is so much information
that the more you read, the more confused you may become.
So today, I’d like to talk about the questions
people who are considering thread lifting for the first time
often ask.
We’ll cover whether dissolvable threads or non-dissolvable threads are better,
and why people say the procedure doesn’t work.
If you read to the end, you’ll be able to organize the key things
you need to know before the procedure all at once.
Dissolvable threads vs. non-dissolvable threads: what’s the difference?
Gangnam-gu Thread Lifting
When you look into thread lifting,
the first choice you face is this one.
Should you use dissolvable threads, or non-dissolvable threads?

But to be honest,
when I first get this question,
I usually ask a question back rather than answer right away.
Are you perhaps thinking that non-dissolvable threads last longer?
Many people actually believe that.
The idea that non-dissolvable threads are more effective
and will last longer is reasonable,
but the results in actual clinical settings are a little different.
The lifting effect of thread lifting comes from
the pulling force of the thread itself,
but what maintains that effect is the adhesion tissue
and collagen formed around the thread.

As the barbs on the thread settle into the skin tissue,
fibrotic tissue and adhesion form around it,
which serves as a kind of support structure.
And the time it takes for this adhesion to form,
that is, the period for the effect to take hold,
is usually around 6 to 12 months,
and the current medical consensus is that there is no clinically meaningful difference
between dissolvable and non-dissolvable threads in this regard.
The point of concern with non-dissolvable threads is actually elsewhere.
If you receive the procedure every year starting in your 30s,
after several decades there could be dozens of threads
inside your face.
They do not break down and remain in the body permanently,
and what long-term effect this may have on surrounding tissues
has not yet been fully clarified.

So at Globi, for people considering repeated procedures,
we tend to recommend dissolvable threads.
On the other hand, dissolvable threads, such as PDO or PCL materials,
are gradually broken down in the body
and stimulate fibroblasts to induce collagen production.
It does not end with simply pulling the skin upward;
rather, the breakdown process itself contributes to improved skin elasticity.
There is a scientific background to why dissolvable threads have become the standard worldwide.
Understanding the type of thread correctly,
that is the beginning of the procedure.
But in fact, there is one more factor that affects results
just as much as the type of thread,
or perhaps even more directly.
Why do people say thread lifting doesn’t work?

If you search for thread lifting,
you are bound to come across reviews like these.
People say they do not notice much difference after the procedure,
or that the effect disappears quickly.
Seeing that, some people become skeptical about the procedure itself,
but to be honest, those reviews are not entirely wrong.

However, there is usually a reason the procedure did not work.
The key is the placement and direction of the threads.
In thread lifting, it is not the act of inserting the threads itself,
but where and at what angle they are inserted that determines the result.
Every patient has a different face shape, different skin thickness,
and a different direction of sagging.
So if this is not read accurately before the procedure,
even using the same thread can lead to completely different results.
Among doctors, the reason people say,
“We do the same thing, so why are the results different?”
comes down to differences in skill.

To give one example,
thread lifting was originally developed in the West
for improving nasolabial folds.
If you pull laterally using the original Western method,
you can get a lifting effect,
but the cheekbones may also appear broader to the side.
However, most Koreans do not want their cheekbones to look bigger.
If this is not considered during the procedure,
there may certainly be an effect,
but satisfaction will inevitably be lower.

And technically speaking, one more thing:
rather than simply inserting bidirectional barbed threads,
combining them with zigzag-style multidirectional fixation threads
is much more advantageous in terms of sustained lifting effect.
Again, this is something that can be properly applied only after accurately understanding
the individual patient’s facial structure and direction of sagging.
Of course, you do not have to come to us specifically.
However, when you receive a consultation, I recommend that you
ask how the threads will be inserted.
A lot can be learned from the answer.
Thread lifting can be a very satisfying procedure
when the conditions are right.
I hope this article has helped convey,
at least a little,
that those conditions are in surprisingly fine details.
At Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic,
because we have been performing thread lifting for a long time,
we spend the most time examining the facial structure before the procedure.
That is because we know from experience that it changes the result.
If you have any questions,
please feel free to leave a consultation inquiry.
We will sincerely provide answers that are truly helpful.
*The effectiveness and side effects of all procedures may vary depending on the individual.
