After getting a sillift,
have you ever heard someone say
that their cheekbones seem wider?
Many people who come in for lifting procedures
bring up this concern first during consultation.
They want to restore firmness,
but worry that their cheekbones may end up looking bigger.
Because of this, some people even hesitate
about sillifting itself.
To put it simply,
cheekbone prominence is something that can be fully prevented
depending on the procedure method.
However, to do that, you first need to understand
exactly why this happens.
In this article, I will explain the causes of cheekbone prominence after sillifting
and the two key criteria for preventing it.
If you read through to the end,
you will have a clear idea of what must be checked before the procedure.
The issue of the face looking bigger is one of 'direction'

After a sillifting procedure,
some people find that their cheekbones appear more pronounced.
At first, many assume it is simply due to swelling,
but if that feeling remains even after the swelling has gone down,
then another cause needs to be considered.

It is a problem with the direction in which the thread is pulled.
Sillifting is a procedure in which a barbed thread is inserted under the skin
to pull sagging tissue upward.
However, because this procedure was first developed in the West,
earlier methods were designed to pull diagonally toward the side of the ear.
In other words, the nasolabial folds are lifted sideways.
This works naturally for Western facial structures.
But when applied as is to Koreans, whose bone structure is different,
the situation changes.
The 'deep medial cheek fat' (SOOF) covering the cheekbones
and the surrounding tissue receive pulling force sideways,
which can push them upward over the cheekbones.
Simply put, instead of lifting the tissue that needs to be pulled,
the tissue gathers in a way that makes the area above the cheekbones look fuller.
That is what cheekbone prominence is.

This is not a matter of whether the thread is good or bad,
or of how many threads are used.
If the insertion direction of the thread is not designed to match the facial structure of Koreans,
the same result can occur even with excellent threads.
That is why, during consultation,
we always check the position of the cheekbones and the face shape first.
Deciding the direction of the procedure
has such a significant impact on the outcome.
This is not to say that you must come to us specifically,
but wherever you receive the procedure,
we recommend that you carefully check whether they sufficiently discuss
the traction angle and path that match your face shape.
The standard is whether it can be designed to avoid the cheekbones

Then, if you want to get proper lifting results without making the cheekbones stand out,
what should you look at?

We believe this ultimately comes down to the ability to design the insertion path.
To prevent cheekbone prominence,
the thread must bypass the path so that it does not affect the tissue around the cheekbones.
It sounds simple, but in reality it is an extremely delicate task.
Inside the face, the cheek fat and the fat layer beneath the cheekbones are arranged in multiple layers,
and
depending on which layer the thread passes through and in what direction,
it can make a big difference in the result.
Even if the insertion angle changes by just a few degrees,
it can unintentionally stimulate the tissue around the cheekbones.

Sillifting and more prominent cheekbones
Among the people who come in for consultation,
there are some who say they had a sillifting procedure done elsewhere
but feel that only their cheekbones became bigger.
If the procedure is performed without sufficiently analyzing
the relationship between the cheekbone position and the fat layers during consultation,
it often leads to unsatisfactory results.
In the end, this comes down to
how thoroughly the facial structure is examined at the consultation stage.

At Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic,
we first check the position of the cheekbones and the distribution of the fat layers before the procedure,
and then design a different insertion path for each individual to avoid them.
Simply put, this means we do not apply the same method to everyone.
It is our own approach to preserving the lifting effect while reducing the chance of the cheekbones becoming more prominent.
If you have been hesitating about sillifting because of your cheekbones,
it is better to look first at the method rather than the procedure itself.
We understand your concern about wanting firmer skin while worrying that your cheekbones may look larger.
For those who come to us carrying that concern,
we carefully guide the consultation from the very beginning,
