The 3 months after surgery are important
Hello,

A clinic that follows the principles of plastic surgery, Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic

Plastic surgery is most important when the basics are followed. Plastic surgery must be designed with a person’s entire life in mind. Both the process and the result of plastic surgery must be safe. Globi always puts patients first.
Consultation is an important step that leads to surgery. To help you be satisfied with your surgical results, we promise personalized consultations with medical staff who have extensive clinical experience.
Aftercare can be seen as an extension of surgery. To help patients recover quickly, we provide customized care programs.
The most common question patients ask during consultations is unquestionably about scars.
The surgery was successful, but
When will the scar disappear?
Many people feel anxious about aftercare as much as they do about the surgical results.
The philtrum is located at the center of the face, so even the smallest mark is easy to notice.
That is why many people worry, but scars are not determined only in the operating room.
The 3 months after surgery, that is, the time when the skin is recovering,
can make a big difference in the course of the scar and its final texture,
even if the same surgery was performed, depending on how you spend that time.
So today, I will go over exactly what you should take care of during those 3 months,
and point out the things that are easy to miss and later regretted.
Why scars form over 3 months

“My skin usually doesn’t scar easily,
so I probably don’t need to worry too much, right?”
This is something we often hear in the consultation room.
It would be hard to say that skin type has no relevance at all,
but in fact, scars are influenced much more by how you go through the recovery process
than by skin type.
Scars form when collagen accumulates excessively after the skin is damaged,
and this process does not end just a few days after surgery.

It is broadly divided into three stages.
From immediately after surgery to 2 weeks, it is the inflammatory phase,
when swelling and redness may occur,
then up to 6 weeks it is the proliferative phase,
during which collagen is actively produced,
and after that, up to 3 months, it is the remodeling phase,
when the collagen arrangement becomes more organized and the final shape of the scar is determined.
In other words, even after the stitches are removed, the healing process inside the skin is still actively ongoing.
In particular, the philtrum area is around the mouth, so the facial muscles almost never get a break.
Every time you smile, talk, or chew, small amounts of tension are repeatedly applied to the surgical area.
In fact, among people who neglected postoperative care,
there are cases where they felt fine for the first few days, but about a month later
were disappointed that the scar remained more visible than expected.

So for the first month after surgery, we recommend avoiding movements that open the mouth wide
and foods that are chewy or hard as much as possible.
One more thing to add:
if you have very thin skin or a tendency to form keloids,
you should definitely consult in advance
to first confirm whether you are a suitable candidate for surgery.
Not putting unnecessary tension on healing tissue,
and accurately understanding your own skin conditions,
those are the first principles of scar care.
So then, what exactly should you take care of over the 3 months?

“After the stitches come out,
can’t I just go back to normal life?”
That is true—you can return to daily life.
However, when it comes to scar care, please think of the period after stitch removal
as the real beginning.
From right after stitch removal,
you should start applying scar ointment.
Silicone, the main ingredient in the ointment,
forms a thin barrier on the skin’s surface to prevent moisture loss
and helps suppress excessive collagen buildup.
Applying a thick layer does not make it more effective;
what matters is applying it thinly and consistently 2–3 times a day.
If you make it part of your routine—before sunscreen in the morning and after washing your face at night—
you will be much less likely to miss it.

Sun protection should also be managed from this stage.
Recovering skin is especially vulnerable to UV rays, so if it is exposed as is,
pigmentation can make the scar darker and more noticeable.
We recommend applying sunscreen consistently when going বাইরে for 2 months after surgery.
Makeup is possible starting the day after stitch removal,
but layering foundation thickly over the surgical area can interfere with skin recovery,
so please keep it as thin as possible.
And there is one more thing I would like to mention.

You should refrain from drinking and smoking for 1 month after surgery.
Alcohol and cigarettes interfere with blood circulation,
slowing tissue recovery,
and smoking in particular reduces the oxygen supply to the wound area,
increasing the possibility that the scar will form more thickly.
Since this directly affects the result,
please make sure to follow this during that period.
A philtrum reduction surgery is determined not only by how well the operation itself goes,
but also by how you spend the 3 months afterward.
I hope today’s post helps organize some of the vague worries you may have had
before surgery.
Globi Plastic Surgery Clinic makes it a principle to transparently disclose
possible side effects and precautions that may occur after surgery.
It is not too late to first accurately confirm whether the surgery is suitable for your case
and which care plan is right for you,
before making a decision.

※ All plastic surgery procedures may cause side effects such as bleeding, inflammation, and infection depending on the individual’s constitution,
and the speed of scar recovery also varies from person to person.
