When you search for breast fat grafting,
you come across countless statements such as
“it looks natural” and “choose this if you don’t like implants.”
These statements are not wrong.
However, the realistic aspects hidden behind them—
the things you must know and consider before surgery—
are rarely discussed.
Therefore, in this post, we have transparently organized
the things you should know before breast fat grafting,
focusing on the questions we receive most often
in the consultation room.
If you spend just three minutes reading this,
you will have criteria to make your own decision
instead of relying on vague anxiety.
How Much of the Grafted Fat Will Survive?

I heard that not all of the grafted fat survives.
What does that mean?
This is a question we hear very often in consultations.
That is correct.
Not all of the grafted fat survives.
However, many people focus only on “how much will remain?”
and often overlook another important fact that comes next.

In breast fat grafting, “fat engraftment”
refers to the process in which fat collected and injected into the breasts
forms new blood vessels and becomes fully established in the body.
To put it simply, it is similar to a plant transplanted into a flowerpot
taking root in new soil.
If it takes root well, it grows,
but if the environment is unsuitable, it may wither.
That is why not all of the grafted fat becomes established.
Generally, around 30–50% is absorbed or lost by the body,
but this figure can vary greatly depending on an individual’s constitution
and postoperative care, so the results may differ as well.
Therefore, postoperative care
should not be regarded as merely a list of precautions.
It is a key factor that determines
the engraftment rate.
The most important thing is nutritional intake
during the two to three months after surgery.
If you go on an excessive diet during this period,
the grafted fat may be broken down as an energy source,
which can lower the engraftment rate.
This is why we ask patients at every consultation
to “please wait just two to three months.”
There are also occasional patients who massage the grafted area
or apply hot or cold compresses.
If external stimulation is applied before the fat has fully settled,
the shape itself may become deformed.
Therefore, avoiding contact with the grafted area
during the recovery period is a way to protect the results.
When You Are Unsure Whether Symptoms After Surgery Are Normal

There is another question we receive frequently after surgery.
“My breasts feel hard and look uneven after surgery.
Does this mean something went wrong?”
Many people contact us because they are concerned.

To give you the conclusion first, it is a normal part of the recovery process
for the grafted area to feel hard or look uneven immediately after surgery.
Swelling and an inflammatory response occur around the grafted fat,
causing the tissue to temporarily appear hardened.
This generally improves naturally as the recovery period progresses.
Bruising and pain in the area where the fat was harvested,
as well as redness of the skin, are also common.
These usually subside within two to three weeks,
while the skin color recovers over three to six months.
However, please keep in mind that minor scarring may remain
depending on your individual constitution.

There is one thing we especially want you to remember.
If you experience sudden heat and redness accompanied by
rapid swelling on one side, pain that does not subside even after taking medication,
or persistent bleeding or discharge,
do not wait and assume that it will improve with time.
You must visit the clinic immediately.
This is because it is important to respond to infections
or complications at an early stage.

We would also like to be honest about one more thing.
When there is an absolute lack of available fat
or the skin has significantly reduced elasticity,
it can be difficult to create the desired volume.
If the procedure is pushed too far in such cases,
it may instead lead to disappointment with the results.
In these situations, we consider other alternatives together
during the consultation stage,
and if we determine that surgery is not suitable,
we do not push you to undergo it.
The patient’s long-term safety and satisfaction
are more important than proceeding unnecessarily.
Breast fat grafting has clear advantages,
but it is not a procedure that can provide
the same good results for everyone.
Globey transparently explains the possibility of side effects
and the realistic limitations before surgery,
and helps patients find the approach most suitable
for their individual body type.
Before deciding on surgery, if you would like to first confirm
whether fat grafting is realistically possible for your body type
and whether the conditions are right for achieving the results you want,
please feel free to contact us.
