When you are considering breast surgery, at some point
you may find yourself asking,
“Would fat grafting be better, or should I get implants?”
Even after searching online, opinions vary,
and many people become even more confused
about what criteria to use when making their choice.
There is no single correct answer as to which option is better.
What matters is first determining which method
is better suited to your body's individual characteristics.
In this post, we will honestly explain the practical differences
between the two procedures and the criteria for choosing between them.
If shape and size are your priorities,
implant surgery is the more practical option
Differences Between Breast Fat Grafting and Implants
People say fat grafting looks natural,
so can't I just choose fat grafting?
Whenever I hear this question,
I want to answer honestly.

The natural appearance of fat grafting is certainly a clear advantage,
but it is not necessarily the best choice for everyone.
Implant surgery allows the desired shape and size
to be created more precisely.
Because the type, size, and placement of the implant
are planned directly, changes in volume are easier to predict,
and the results tend to be more consistent.

Many people who visit our consultation room
have low body fat and thin skin.
With these characteristics, the amount of fat available
for grafting may be insufficient, making implant surgery
the more practical choice.
The volume increase that can be expected from fat grafting
is clinically about half a cup to one cup,
so if you want more than that, implant surgery may be more suitable.
On the other hand, fat grafting uses your own fat,
so there is less sensation of a foreign object.
The way the breasts naturally spread when lying down
is also difficult to achieve with implants.
Fat grafting can be a good alternative for people
who feel psychologically uncomfortable with implants,
prioritize natural feel and appearance,
or want to undergo body contouring of the thighs or abdomen at the same time.
For reference, after surgery, underwear with underwires
or firm padding should be avoided for one month with either method
to avoid interfering with recovery.
When sleeping, raising your upper body by about the height
of one pillow may help reduce swelling during the early recovery period.

Because Glovi performs both procedures,
we first recommend the option that is better suited
to your body during the consultation.
If we determine that the conditions are not suitable,
we will tell you honestly and do not recommend
forcing a procedure that is not appropriate.
Using both methods together
can provide a more natural-looking result
Differences Between Breast Fat Grafting and Implants
If I get implants,
won't they inevitably look artificial?
Many people have this concern,
but that is not necessarily the case.

Recently, more people have been choosing an approach
that establishes the overall volume with implants,
then uses a small amount of fat grafting in areas
where the edges may be visible to complete a natural silhouette.
In practice, some patients visit us after implant surgery
because they are concerned that the contours near the cleavage
are visible or that the shape appears sharply angled.
This is not necessarily a problem with the implants themselves.
It is often caused by the anatomical structure of having
thin layers of the patient's own tissue covering the breasts,
which makes the edges visible.

In such cases, rather than replacing the implants unnecessarily,
combining the procedure with closely filling the boundary areas
with fat can significantly reduce an artificial appearance
and enhance naturalness.
In this way, the two methods are not mutually exclusive options.
They are complementary tools that can be combined
and used in various ways depending on each person's body characteristics.

Using Crisalix 3D simulation before surgery
allows you to preview the expected results
for different implant types and sizes,
helping turn vague concerns into a more specific direction.
Rather than rubbing the surgical area firmly with your fingertips
when showering, gently pressing and cleaning it
can make a practical difference during early recovery,

and consistently applying scar tape
immediately after suture removal is a basic part of scar care.
If your skin is extremely thin or your body has very little tissue
available for grafting, it can be difficult to achieve the desired result
with fat grafting alone.
At Glovi, rather than proceeding with surgery indiscriminately,
we honestly recommend implant surgery or a combined approach
based on each patient's physical characteristics.
In breast surgery, rather than asking which is better—
fat grafting or implants—it is much more important to ask
which option is better suited to your body.
Glovi's principle is to share the potential risks
and realistic limitations of each procedure as they are,
and to first determine the approach suited to your body
at a clinic that offers both methods.
If you want to reduce trial and error caused by incorrect information,
we recommend first checking an accurate plan
that is appropriate for your individual case.
※ Breast surgery may involve side effects such as differences in fat graft survival rates depending on individual body characteristics, capsular contracture, infection, bleeding, and asymmetry. You should make a careful decision after having a thorough consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
