The most important variable is the condition of the capsule.

While an implant remains in the body, fibrous tissue called a capsule naturally forms around it.

If the capsule is thin and soft, the removal process is relatively straightforward.

The situation becomes more complicated when capsular contracture has progressed.

When we examine a patient’s breasts by palpation in the consultation room, we often find that, in cases of advanced capsular contracture, the capsule has tightened enough for firmness to be felt even from the outside.

The more strongly the capsule is adhered to the surrounding breast tissue, the greater the precision required to separate and remove it safely and thoroughly.

This is why the surgical time and recovery period may be longer than those for simple removal.

It is also important to have realistic expectations about changes in shape after removal.

As the skin and tissue contract after the space occupied by the implants is emptied, sagging may occur.

The degree can vary depending on the implant size, the amount of time that has passed since the surgery, and skin elasticity.

On the day of surgery, you will return home with your breasts secured with compression gauze and bandages. You will visit the clinic on the third day to have them removed and switch to a postoperative support bra.

Many patients feel soreness and pressure during this period, but there is no need to be frightened.

This is a normal response as the tissue adapts to its new state, and these sensations naturally ease during recovery.

Swelling is usually at its most severe between two and four days after surgery, and substantial swelling generally subsides within two weeks.

Light daily activities are possible immediately after surgery, but you should avoid raising your arms high or lifting heavy objects for at least one month.

You may shower from the third day after surgery while wearing waterproof tape.

After showering, remove the tape immediately, apply ointment to the incision, and cover it with a bandage. This is the basic approach to incision care.

Because nicotine constricts peripheral blood vessels and interferes with the blood flow needed for tissue recovery, you should refrain from smoking—including exposure to secondhand smoke—for at least one month after surgery.

Avoiding alcohol and environments exposed to high temperatures, such as saunas and jjimjilbangs, during the same period is also basic precautionary care against inflammation.

If the surgical area suddenly becomes severely swollen or is accompanied by warmth and redness, this may be a sign of inflammation, so it is safest to visit the clinic immediately without delay.
