Sooner than you might expect after breast fat grafting,
many people start asking,
“When can I start exercising?”
You may feel that your recovery is going well,
but feel frustrated if you stay still, while also worrying
that overexertion could affect the results.
We fully understand how you feel.
That is why today we will explain, by stage of recovery,
when and how you can resume exercise after surgery.
For those who have only heard that
you “need to rest for a month,”
we will provide practical guidelines based on
what has been observed in clinical practice,
so that you can make a recovery plan.
When to Resume Exercise:
Think About It in These Stages
Exercise After Breast Fat Grafting
This is the question we receive most often
after breast fat grafting:
When can I do exercises that involve running
or lifting heavy objects?
To give you the conclusion first,
cardio exercises that cause upper-body vibration,
such as running, and exercises that place direct force
on the breasts, such as weight training,
are possible from at least one month after surgery.

However, this guideline is based on the average recovery process,
and it is safest to decide when to resume exercise
after checking your recovery progress.
The reason is as follows.
Immediately after surgery, the grafted fat cells
begin establishing themselves as new blood vessels
form in the surrounding tissue and supply them with nutrients.
It takes approximately two to three months
for this process to become stable.

Therefore, if repeated vibration or pressure is applied
to the breasts during this period,
cells that have not yet fully settled may be affected,
which could lower the fat graft survival rate.
The first month is the most critical period
for protecting the carefully achieved surgical results.
From immediately after surgery through the first week,
light daily activities are possible,
but you should avoid raising your arms high
or lifting heavy objects.

For two to three days after surgery,
you may feel dizzy when standing up suddenly
or climbing stairs, so it is best to move slowly.
From the second week,
light walking focused on lower-body activity is possible.
Appropriate walking during this period helps improve blood circulation
and may also have a positive effect on graft survival.
However, running faster or farther than a light jog is still too early.
The thighs, where fat was harvested,
may actually become more swollen between days five and ten,
which is a normal part of the recovery process.
If you apply strong stimulation to the lower body at this point,
it may interfere with recovery at the harvest site
or cause pain and swelling.
From one month onward,
light cardio and standard lower-body exercises are possible.
It is safest to wait until two months after surgery
before starting exercises such as bench presses that directly use the chest muscles,
activities that cause impact throughout the upper body,
or swimming.
Things You Must Also Take Care of During the First Month Besides Exercise
Exercise After Breast Fat Grafting
Even people who know roughly when they can resume exercise
often become confused in daily life about what is acceptable
and when they need to be careful.
Isn't it enough just to avoid exercise?
Can I do everything else as usual?
There are some exceptions, so we will go over them together.

First, your sleeping position has a greater effect than you might expect.
During the first month, avoid sleeping on your stomach or side
and sleep on your back.
Continuous pressure on the grafted area
may disturb the arrangement of the fat cells.
Slightly elevating your upper body with a pillow or cushion
when sleeping may also help reduce swelling.
Choosing underwear is another detail that is easy to overlook.
Underwear with underwire or firm padding
may press on the grafted area and interfere with blood flow,
so we recommend wearing underwear made of soft material
for at least one month.
During the early stages of returning to exercise,
it is also best to avoid sports bras that provide strong compression.

You should avoid massaging the grafted area for two months.
Some people ask, “It feels lumpy. Can't I massage it to loosen it?”
However, external stimulation may disturb fat cells
before they have fully settled.
A temporary feeling of firmness in the breasts
is a normal part of the recovery process.
Rather than applying forceful stimulation,
we recommend having it checked during a follow-up visit.
There are also unfortunate cases in which patients visit us
after exercising too early.
Around the second week after surgery,
some patients feel that they have recovered well
and resume light running.
The resulting vibration applied to the grafted area
can cause swelling to worsen again
or disrupt the environment needed for graft survival.

The more accustomed you are to exercise,
the more important it is during this period
to follow your medical team's guidance first
rather than relying on your own judgment or how your body feels.
You should also pay attention to your diet.
Avoid rapid weight loss during the first month after surgery,
as the living fat cells may also decrease in number or volume.
Maintaining nutritious meals
and supporting blood circulation with light walks
is the wisest choice during this period.
If you still have questions during your recovery,
or would like to confirm specifically when to resume exercise
based on your condition, we recommend speaking with us directly
during a follow-up visit.
It is Globie's principle to provide complete information
about postoperative precautions and the possibility of side effects,
so please feel free to ask us about even your smallest concerns.
