Following the basics is the most important aspect of plastic surgery. Procedures should be planned with the patient's entire life in mind. Both the process and the results must be safe. At Globie, we always put our patients first.
Consultation is an important step that leads to surgery. To help you be satisfied with your surgical results, we promise personalized consultations with medical professionals who have extensive clinical experience.
Postoperative care can also be considered an extension of surgery. We provide personalized care programs to help our patients recover quickly.
When the area under your eyes begins to bulge,
the first thing many people think of
is filler.
Some choose it because they think
filling only the hollow area should be enough,
but unfortunately, in quite a few cases, this choice
becomes the starting point for making the condition worse.
At Globie Plastic Surgery Clinic, even during a single consultation,
we make it a principle to explain not only an immediate solution,
but also how the under-eye area may change
five or ten years from now.
From the principles of the procedure to who is actually suitable,
we will explain everything honestly.
There Is a Reason Not to Simply Remove Under-Eye Fat

I pressed the bulging area because I disliked it,
but is it fat or bone?
This is a question we often hear in the consultation room.
Bulging under the eyes is caused by the displacement of orbital fat.
Inside the eye socket, a mass of fat that protects the eyeball
is held in place inside a thin membrane.
As we age, this membrane gradually loosens,
and the fat begins to move forward.

When we explain this structure, many people ask,
“Then can't you just remove the fat?”
In the past, that was in fact what was done.
However, after simply removing the fat,
the area could become sunken, often making the shadows
look darker like dark circles or leaving the face
looking even more tired.
This is where the principle of
“under-eye fat repositioning,” now established as a standard approach,
comes in.
Rather than eliminating the protruding fat,
it is moved to the hollow groove directly below
and spread evenly to fill the area.

It is like smoothing out a bunched-up blanket
and spreading it evenly, rather than buying a new blanket.
At Globie Plastic Surgery Clinic,
this procedure is performed through an incision in the conjunctiva,
the inner surface of the eye.
Because no incision is made in the external skin,
there is less concern about visible scarring,
and the recovery process is generally easier
than with lower blepharoplasty, which involves an external incision.

However, this procedure is not suitable for everyone.
The factor we examine most carefully during consultation
is whether sagging skin is also present.
The displacement of fat and the loosening of the skin
often progress together. If only the fat is repositioned
when both issues are present,
the remaining sagging skin is not corrected,
which may lead to an unnatural result.

If we determine that skin laxity has already progressed,
we honestly explain that lower blepharoplasty,
which includes skin excision, may be more suitable
than under-eye fat repositioning.
This is because finding the right method comes before
pursuing the best result.
Know This Much About Postoperative Recovery Before Deciding

How long does the procedure take,
and when can I return to my daily routine?
We understand that it is easier to make a decision
when you can plan your recovery schedule in advance,
so we will describe the actual process in detail.

A working professional in their late 30s who visited us
began by saying, “The area under my eyes is so puffy
that people keep telling me I look tired.”
Their skin still had sufficient elasticity,
and the orbital fat had shifted forward evenly,
making them a suitable case for under-eye fat repositioning.
The procedure took approximately 30 minutes.
When we checked their progress the next day,
there was some swelling, but it was easily covered
with sunglasses.
They returned to working from home on the third day,
and around one week later, they were able to handle
in-person work without difficulty.

When they returned one month later, they said,
“People don't tell me I look tired anymore.”
This kind of change is the most honest reason
we recommend this procedure.
However, appropriate care during the recovery period
is necessary to achieve this type of recovery.
Swelling is usually strongest during the first two days
after surgery. For cold compresses,
it is best to gently apply one for about 30 seconds
and then remove it, repeating the process.
Be careful, as pressing too firmly or keeping it in contact
for a long time may have the opposite effect.

Because the incision is made through the conjunctiva,
there are no externally visible stitches,
but the inner eye tissues need time to stabilize.
Since contact lenses directly rub against the conjunctiva,
we recommend waiting at least three weeks before wearing them.
It is also safer to begin eye makeup carefully
after two weeks.
During recovery, some people notice that swelling subsides
at different rates on each side.
This is usually a temporary phenomenon caused by the order
of the procedure or the effects of anesthesia,
and balance generally returns naturally within three months.
Rather than comparing the two sides excessively in the mirror
early on, giving yourself time and watching the progress calmly
can be very helpful both psychologically and during recovery.
Under-eye concerns tend to leave you with fewer options
the longer they are left unaddressed.
At Globie Plastic Surgery Clinic,
our basic principle is to tell people who do not need surgery
that they do not need it, and to recommend another method first
when it is more suitable for them.
If you would like to find out which approach is appropriate
for the current condition of your under-eye area,
or would like an accurate plan suited to your individual situation,
please feel free to confirm this through a consultation first.
※ The results and recovery period of under-eye fat repositioning surgery may vary depending on the individual's eye condition, amount of fat, and skin elasticity. Side effects may occur, so be sure to make a decision only after a thorough consultation.
