Do I need to prepare anything special before the consultation?

Can't I just show up?

We hear these questions very often.

We fully understand that you may be eager to proceed,

but consultations for those who arrive unprepared

often end with much left to be desired.

Since rhinoplasty is a procedure that changes the central axis of the face,

what you discuss during the consultation

essentially determines the direction of the results.

The first thing you should bring is reference photos.

If you prepare photos showing your desired nose shape

from three angles—the front, 45-degree view,

and profile—the quality of communication can change noticeably.

There is a significant difference between simply saying,

"I want it to look natural,"

and discussing your preferences while looking at a photo together.

On the day of your consultation, it is also important to come without heavy nose makeup or foundation that obscures the shape of your nose.

Difficult situations sometimes arise because thick makeup

makes it hard to assess the actual thickness of the nasal skin

or its contours.

An accurate plan can only be made by examining the nose

in its natural condition.

Another thing you must organize in advance is your history of procedures.

If you have had nasal filler or a thread lift,

be sure to mention it beforehand.

Filler can be dissolved with a dissolving agent,

but if non-dissolving thread material remains,

it can create unexpected variables when determining the height of the implant.

There was, in fact, a case where a history of nasal filler

was shared only later.

As a result, the implant thickness could be adjusted in advance,

allowing the desired height to be achieved accurately.

As this example shows, the condition of the nose

must be carefully examined before surgery. If the skin elasticity

is excessively weak or the cartilage support is insufficient,

the desired design may place too much strain on the nose,

and there may be situations in which surgery is not recommended.

were not discussed sufficiently during the preparation stage.

The nose consists of the nasal bones at the upper part,

the cartilage that determines the shape of the tip,

and the layer of skin surrounding all of these structures.

The surgical method and materials used can vary completely

depending on the condition of each of these three elements.

If this distinction is not clearly made, the surgical plan

can only remain superficial.

When we actually examine the thickness of the nasal skin

of people who visit the consultation room,

we can clearly see that even nasal tips that look similar at first glance

can differ considerably in thickness.

For people with a low nasal tip and thick skin,

simply inserting an implant will not make the tip look more defined.

The cartilage must also be reshaped and repositioned,

and whether to use autologous cartilage or preserved cartilage

must be determined according to the patient's condition.

If the bridge of the nose is wide or the nasal bones are crooked,

an osteotomy may also be necessary.

One of the complications of greatest concern in practice

is displacement after an osteotomy.

Please be sure to consider that this risk can be reduced

by carrying out the procedure meticulously with an experienced surgeon's trained eye.

For people with thin skin, the cartilage contours may show through over time,

even if the nose looks attractive immediately after surgery.

Therefore, whether dermal reinforcement is needed

should also be discussed during the consultation.

Postoperative swelling usually subsides noticeably

within two weeks, but it takes approximately six months

for the nose to fully settle into place.

Those who understand this process and wait accordingly

can have a significantly different recovery experience psychologically

from those who do not.

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that is not easy to reverse

when the results do not meet expectations.
