Even today, after the treatment day had ended late in the evening,
I sat alone in the quiet treatment room and the silent doctor’s office,
looking back on the day,
and suddenly thought that it might be nice to share what happened today
with my patients as well.
Recently, a patient who had been coming in diligently over the past month
asked,
Why do you always use that rubber sheet-like thing?

This patient had a lot of experience with dental treatment,
and said that when receiving treatment at other dental clinics,
it was only used very occasionally,
but here it seemed to be used often,
so they were curious~
When I hear that question, I pause for a moment
and carefully explain.
The name of that rubber sheet is “rubber dam.”

For those trying it for the first time,
it may feel unfamiliar
and uncomfortable.
It can feel tight,
and for people who breathe through their mouth,
breathing may become difficult,
so it can be an even more challenging deviceㅠㅠ
But to me, this rubber dam is
a symbol of the promise I want to keep.
Today, I’ll talk about the 3 reasons
why I always use a rubber dam.
First: To ensure adhesion

Resin treatment is very vulnerable to moisture,
so even a tiny amount of saliva or humidity
can negatively affect the treatment result.
For the treatment to be strong and last a long time,
a thoroughly dry environment is necessary.
The rubber dam is the most reliable tool
for creating that environment.

Second: To prevent infection

Our saliva contains countless bacteria.

To keep those bacteria from reaching the treatment area,
the rubber dam helps maintain a clean treatment environment.
Although it cannot be seen,
it plays a role in helping all materials that enter the patient’s body
settle in as cleanly as possible.
Third: To protect patient safety

The rubber dam is used not only during resin treatment,
but also during root canal treatment.

Among the medications used in root canal treatment,
some contain very strong ingredients, similar to bleach.
Because that medication must not come into contact with the inside of the mouth,
I always proceed with treatment with great care.
At times like this, the rubber dam becomes the most reliable shield
that helps prevent any possible accidents.
I truly treat every patient
with the heart of caring for my own family,
so I end up paying careful attention even to the parts that are not visible.
That is why I end up using a rubber dam in almost every treatment.
Before treatment begins, I quietly make a promise every day.
“Let’s do the best we can
for each and every patient!”
Even today, as I place that small rubber sheet,
I am conveying more than just treatment.
Today, I wrote a post like this—slightly cheesy,
but full of my sincerity^^;
I always have so much heartfelt care for my patients,
but if I don’t express it, it won’t be communicated,
so I thought I should write it on my blog from time to time.
I’ll continue to write posts with my feelings from time to time,
so it may feel a little cheesy...^^;;
I’d be grateful if you read them🙏🏻
