[Case Report] In What Cases Is Endoscopic Forehead Lift Performed? How Does It Change? (feat. High-Level Aftercare)

So endoscopic forehead lift is hot these days, right?

When talking with clients, I often hear this.

Thanks to the power of advertising, it has only recently become widely known to the general public, but in fact, this surgery has a history of more than 20 years. Over a long period of time, the delicacy of the technique and the indications have been revised many times to reach what it is today.^^

Forehead lift: who should get it?

Young people whose eyebrows and eyes are so close together that if they have double eyelid surgery they are expected to look even angrier, middle-aged people who want to correct eyelid sagging but worry that upper blepharoplasty or a brow lift under the eyebrow would make their impression seem stronger, and people concerned about forehead and glabellar wrinkles can see improvement with an endoscopic forehead lift.

Since this is a procedure I have performed a lot ever since I worked at Apgujeong Plastic Surgery in the past, I know well the questions clients have about endoscopic forehead lift and the precautions to take after surgery.

Endoscopic forehead lift is a surgery that pulls the forehead, glabella, eyebrows, and upper eyelids upward at the same time, so when done properly, the main purpose is not only to smooth glabellar wrinkles but also to improve drooping eyelids. However, as in the case above, it can also be performed when someone wants their double eyelids, which have become covered by sagging skin with age, to show a little more. Of course, for those who have been getting Botox in the forehead and glabella, it also has the advantage of delaying the appearance of aging and glabellar wrinkles compared with their peers^^

As the eyebrows are lifted upward like this, the original double eyelids become visible, allowing a natural eye shape to form from the start after surgery. However, you should remember that the degree to which the double eyelids are revealed tends to be better in older people (those with more severe sagging).

A case of a patient troubled by forehead and glabellar wrinkles

This patient was concerned about fine wrinkles on the forehead and glabella, but the biggest reason I recommended forehead lift was actually that the distance between the eyes and eyebrows was narrow. As the eyebrows are pulled upward, the glabellar wrinkles improve as well. In fact, the degree to which forehead wrinkles improve with forehead lift alone varies from case to case. That is because it is difficult for surgery to improve wrinkles that are etched into the skin, rather than those caused by muscle movement. However, if laser treatment is combined, you can see significant improvement as in the case above (this case involved one session each of Er:YAG and Halo treatment with the Joule Laser).

If it is combined with other plastic surgery procedures?

If you want more attractive double eyelids, or if you want to improve under-eye sagging at the same time, on the day of the endoscopic forehead lift, you can have the necessary procedures such as double eyelid surgery, eye correction surgery, lower blepharoplasty, or under-eye fat repositioning done together. To reduce bruising and swelling in the early stage after surgery, the doctor first has to do a good job (obviously^^;;). But each person’s blood vessels run slightly differently, and the number of smaller branches of blood vessels also differs. Constitution and the presence or absence of disease also vary. Therefore, we must recognize that there are clearly unavoidable aspects on the doctor’s side as well. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could return to daily life as quickly as in the case above?

Once, when I tabulated the early post-op appearance of my own patients, about 90% showed swelling and bruising similar to the case above, but 5% had somewhat more swelling. In 5%, the bruising around the eyes can be quite severe like a panda ㅠㅠ

Can I have a forehead lift if hair loss is in progress?

To perform a forehead lift, we usually make five small incisions of about 2 cm each inside the hairline and insert the endoscope and surgical instruments. However, as in the case below, even men whose hair loss is progressing do not need to worry too much about scarring if the incision sites are chosen well and treated with appropriate laser therapy.
