A long time ago, I once drove a friend to get double eyelid surgery on eyes that were not suitable for the burial method.

From an ordinary person’s point of view, double eyelid surgery is simply creating a line above the eye. But medically, the shape of the eye has many variables.

Look around you today. You’ll probably find that cases where people have had double eyelid surgery but it feels awkward are more common than you think.

That’s enough about my story. Today, I’d like to talk about the very common but carefully chosen burial method for double eyelid surgery~

The most common problems in revision double eyelid surgery are, first, the burial method was done but the fold came undone; and second, what some patients describe as sausage eyes. In general, from an ordinary person’s perspective, incision surgery can feel a bit scary just to think about, and recovery takes longer, so it seems like the usual “pinching” method is often the first option people consider.

Of course, if such a simple method produces a pretty and satisfying result, that would be the best of both worlds.

Why the burial method for double eyelid surgery is criticized

What fault could the burial method, also called a no-incision double eyelid surgery method, possibly have? When used appropriately for the right case, it is truly a very good method: pretty, less painful, and faster to recover from. The only problem seems to be whether it was performed in a suitable case.

An experienced doctor can often predict the possibility of the fold coming undone in advance. If you think of it as simply drawing a line on the eye, that line can disappear. But when you consider the structure of the entire eye, the skin within it, the muscles within it, and the harmony of the entire face, as Dr. Park does, these issues can be improved.

But~ when the doctor says it’s not suitable, you should trust that. There’s no need for us to use our bodies as test subjects, right? Rather than having to try it ourselves to know, please trust the method recommended through a higher level of judgment.

Literally, instead of becoming prettier, it just creates a line above the eye, and you may have seen cases where it doesn’t harmonize naturally with the eye and instead feels like it is floating above it. It’s unfortunate. That’s because the original purpose of creating double eyelids is not limited to the technique itself; the goal is to achieve a harmonious and beautiful result. If the burial method is performed on eyes for which it is not appropriate, it can result in what is called sausage eyes.

A tiny difference, a big difference in standards

For a pretty result, it is important to accurately understand the current condition of the eyes before proceeding with the procedure. We assess the thickness of the eyelids, the degree of sagging, and whether there is sagging of the eyebrows or a structure that comes down from the forehead. In the end, it may look like we are simply changing the eyelid covering the eye, but when we consider more than that, better results are achieved.
