The main drawback is that some of the natural tooth surface may need to be removed,

depending on the tooth structure and alignment,

and if done improperly, it can lead to veneer detachment or tooth damage.

It may be limited in cases where the gums are not healthy or the tooth position is significantly misaligned.

2. If the cause of discoloration is not clear, it is more efficient to get a diagnosis rather than starting with an at-home whitening product. Drug-related discoloration or discoloration from nerve damage is rarely improved by regular whitening products.
