"Only my two front teeth look large. Why is that?"

Many people say that something looks awkward whenever they look in the mirror,

but they are not sure exactly what the problem is.

Teeth with unusually small lateral incisors are called microdontia.

When microdontia is present, the real issue is not an individual tooth,

but that the 'size ratio' between the central incisors (middle front teeth) and lateral incisors (side front teeth)

appears unbalanced.

Today, we would like to introduce a microdontia laminate veneer case by Objetro, in which the proportions of the front teeth were redesigned to restore natural harmony.

The patient we are introducing today was concerned about the overall shape and alignment of the front teeth.

A detailed examination revealed several features.

✅ Microdontia, with underdeveloped lateral incisors (side front teeth)

✅ Discoloration of old composite resin remaining on the central incisors

✅ As a result, the central incisors looked relatively large, while the space between the front teeth appeared empty

In other words, rather than the individual teeth being problematic,

the balance in size among the front teeth had become uneven.

Can microdontia not also be treated with composite resin?

There are several ways to improve the appearance of small teeth.

✅ Composite resin: Convenient, but prone to discoloration over time. In fact, this patient had previously received composite resin treatment, but discoloration had progressed, leading to renewed concerns.

✅ Orthodontic treatment: Alignment can be improved, but the size of the teeth themselves does not change, so the 'smallness' of microdontia often remains.

✅ Laminate veneers: The size, shape, and color can be designed together, making them suitable for cases where 'proportion' is the main concern, such as microdontia.

For this patient, we decided to first remove the discolored existing composite resin thoroughly,

then improve both the color and shape with Objetro laminate veneers.

Reducing the central incisors and enlarging the lateral incisors

The key to this case was not simply making the teeth "white and straight."

✅ Slightly reduce the width of the central incisors, which appeared relatively large

✅ Enlarge the lateral incisors affected by microdontia

✅ Redesign the width proportions of the anterior teeth from the central incisors to the lateral incisors and canines

A beautiful smile has

a consistent proportional flow between the teeth.

When this flow is properly balanced, the result looks so natural that people may wonder, "Were the teeth always like this?"

The final proportions are anticipated from the preparation stage

Many people think that the shape of laminate veneers

is determined during the laboratory stage.

In fact, for cases involving proportional adjustments,

the final result is determined starting from the tooth preparation stage.

✅ How much width to give up from each tooth

✅ How much volume to add to each tooth

✅ Working backward from the thickness of the completed ceramic

we anticipated the proportions and designed the space in advance during tooth preparation.

Choosing a shade that looks 'undetectable' — based on the natural teeth

The patient's desired direction was also clear.

"Longer and larger, but natural in color."

Therefore, the shade was not selected simply to be as white as possible,

but based on a brightness that would harmonize with the natural lower teeth.

Objetro uses a multilayer ceramic technique

to reproduce both translucent layers and subtle color tones,

allowing us to aim for a result that is bright without looking artificial.
