Songpa Dental Clinic: A Case of Improving Mottled Teeth with Veneers

Some people visit a Songpa dental clinic because they have

white patches or yellowish spots on their front teeth.

They tell us that although they have undergone whitening several times,

the spots only became more noticeable.

This condition is called mottled teeth.

Today, we would like to introduce a case in which mottled teeth were improved with veneers.

At the First Visit

When the patient first visited our Songpa dental clinic, the condition of the teeth was as follows.

✔ White patches and yellowish spots mixed together on the front teeth

✔ The patches remained even after whitening

✔ The uneven surface continued to be noticeable when smiling

The patient had originally received only whitening treatment because of the mottled teeth,

but after feeling its limitations, they visited us for veneer treatment.

Why Can’t Mottled Teeth Be Treated with Whitening?

Whitening is a treatment that brightens the teeth overall.

Mottled teeth occur when the composition forming the tooth surface

has developed differently in certain areas.

Tooth whitening: colors that can and cannot be changed

Therefore, whitening may brighten the teeth overall, but

the difference between the spots and the surrounding areas remains.

In some cases, the contrast becomes greater, making the spots even more visible.

That is why the surface needs to be covered rather than simply lightening its color.

How Was the Treatment Performed?

We treated the six upper front teeth with Ovezero veneers.

With mottled teeth, the underlying color can easily show through.

Therefore, we designed the ceramic layers so that the spots would not show through while keeping them thin.

We prepared only as much of the teeth as necessary.

We did not remove an excessive amount of tooth structure simply to conceal the spots.

Two Things We Paid Particular Attention To

After treatment

✅ First, evenness rather than excessive whiteness.

With mottled teeth, the impression can change significantly simply by removing the spots.

Therefore, rather than greatly increasing the brightness, we focused on making the surface look uniform.

✅ Second, the shade was matched at the clinic.

We have an in-house dental laboratory.

The dental technician matches the shade and translucency while directly observing the patient’s teeth.

We selected a brightness that would not look unnatural when viewed alongside the natural teeth below.

After treatment

As the spots were evened out, each tooth no longer looked separate,

and the teeth appeared to blend together.

Simply preventing attention from going first to the spots when smiling

can create a more comfortable overall impression.

However, the longevity of veneers varies depending on usage habits and care,

so regular checkups are necessary.
