Sometimes, the two front teeth appear

spread apart toward both sides when smiling.

Because the center appears open and the outer sides look wide,

they are commonly called “butterfly front teeth.”

Today, we would like to introduce a case

that was treated with butterfly front teeth veneers.

When the patient first visited

Upper anterior teeth before treatment

The patient wanted two things.

✔ Neatly aligned front teeth

✔ A brighter tooth color than before

Along with the front teeth appearing spread apart,

the patient was also concerned about staining remaining on the lower front teeth.

Why this case was challenging

The patient visited us hoping to correct the butterfly front teeth,

but there was something that needed to be checked after the panoramic examination.

The patient’s lower jaw was slightly protruded.

When this is the case, the upper front teeth bite close to the lower front teeth.

Veneers are a treatment in which thin ceramic is attached to the front surfaces of the teeth,

so it is difficult to add thickness if there is not enough space for the bite.

If the veneers are made too thick, they may cause discomfort when speaking

or fracture if excessive force is concentrated on them while chewing.

Therefore, we first checked the relationship between the upper and lower teeth.

We examined how the upper and lower jaws came together using diagnostic models

and determined the possible shape within those limits.

How were the butterfly front teeth veneers placed?

Objet veneers

The upper front teeth were treated with Objet veneers,

while the lower front teeth were covered only very thinly, taking the bite into consideration.

There was a reason for treating the lower teeth as well.

If only the upper teeth were brightened, the difference in color from the lower teeth

would remain clearly visible.

The stained areas were also addressed at this time.

What we focused on in the design

Details unique to Objet veneers

There are four things to consider with butterfly front teeth veneers.

✅ First, the length.

The longer the teeth are made, the more open and refreshing they can look,

but this case did not allow for that.

So we adjusted them to appear only slightly longer.

✅ Second, the difference in length.​

We created a clear difference in length between the central and lateral incisors.

If they are all the same length, they can look like a single plate has been attached.

✅ Third, the shape.​

The front surfaces were kept relatively flat, while the outer corners were rounded.

If they are too angular, the overall impression can look too strong.

The tips of the canines were also left only slightly pointed.

✅ Fourth, the spaces.​

The space where the two central incisors meet was kept narrow,

while the remaining spaces were left more open.

This spacing helps correct the impression that the teeth are spread apart.

Objet veneers

The front teeth that appeared spread apart were connected into a single line.

The colors of the upper and lower teeth were also coordinated rather than appearing mismatched.

We selected the shade to create a bright look without appearing artificial.

However, the lifespan of veneers varies depending on usage habits and maintenance, so regular checkups are necessary.
