Why Do Pimples Appear in or Inside the Ear? How Can They Be Treated?
If you ride the subway or a bus, you’ll see that many people are wearing earphones.
If you wear earphones for a long time, there are times when you may suddenly feel pain or soreness starting from inside the ear.
I’ve had that happen a few times myself, and I remember brushing it off lightly, thinking, “Did something break out inside my ear?”
But one day, a pimple-like bump appeared inside my ear, and even as time passed, it did not go away easily.
Because it didn’t disappear, wearing earphones became difficult, of course, and the pain gradually worsened, with the discomfort spreading to the area behind the ear and across the entire ear.
At that point, I started thinking, “Ah, this isn’t something I can fix on my own.”
Up to here is my personal story, and in the end, through an otolaryngology visit, I learned that it was a condition called an ear furuncle.

An ear furuncle is an inflammatory condition that occurs inside the ear and can look like a pimple or a boil.
Just as inflammatory skin conditions can develop on the skin, they can also certainly occur inside the ear.
In particular, the inside of the ear has poor air circulation and a humid, closed structure, which makes it an environment where skin conditions can easily develop.
If hygiene is insufficient, or if bacteria enter through a small wound caused by picking at the ear, the likelihood of an ear furuncle developing increases.
Rather than trying to treat an ear furuncle at home on your own, it is recommended that you see an otolaryngologist.
This is because if the pimple bursts inside the ear and pus comes out, there is a risk that the discharge will flow inward.
Also, if proper disinfection or drainage of the pus is not performed, the chance of recurrence increases.

Therefore, it is advisable to receive simple drainage and disinfection treatment at an otolaryngology clinic.
If you try to squeeze it or touch it forcefully at home, the inflammation may worsen or treatment may take longer.
For the same visit, I also recommend having your ear condition and earwax management checked.
After that,
✔ reduce the habit of picking your ears frequently
✔ keep your earphones clean
✔ and take care not to irritate the inside of the ear
