Hello, everyone.
This is Director Oh Young-ju from Hongdae Oblige Clinic. ^^

"I thought it was acne, so I just left it alone,
but even after several months, it still wouldn’t go away..."
Flat warts are a skin condition that many people confuse with acne because they look similar.
The problem is that these warts are viral, so they are highly contagious.
That means if they are not recognized early, they can spread across the face and become more difficult to treat.
Today, let’s talk about how to distinguish milia-like acne and flat warts,
and what to be careful about when treating flat warts.
If you have been confused about the two conditions, or if you are preparing for wart treatment, please focus for a moment and read on!
Acne and flat warts,
How are they different?
Hongdae Flat Warts: If You Confuse Them, It Can Become a Big Problem. -1

Milia-like acne is a small inflammatory bump caused by clogged sebaceous glands.
It usually appears on the forehead or around the chin, and it feels bumpy when touched.
Over time, it may settle down naturally, and it can be managed with proper skincare or medication.

On the other hand, flat warts are viral warts caused by HPV (human papillomavirus),
and they are characterized by the appearance of small bumps that are skin-colored or slightly brownish.
The problem is that these warts are very contagious,
and they can spread across the face through habits such as shaving or touching them with your hands.
Unlike milia-like acne, flat warts may itch,
or when touched, they may feel as though they are spreading.
If these symptoms continue, it is necessary to get an accurate diagnosis at a clinic.
How are flat warts treated?
Hongdae Flat Warts: If You Confuse Them, It Can Become a Big Problem. -2

Because flat warts are a viral condition, they will never go away on their own if left untreated.
Even if the symptoms seem mild at first, the number of lesions increases over time and the affected area expands, so early removal is the best approach.
Usually, dermatology clinics remove flat warts using a CO2 laser.

This laser selectively removes only the wart while minimizing damage to the surrounding skin, allowing for faster recovery.
However, because laser procedures directly burn the cells and keratin on the skin surface, wounds inevitably remain.
At that time, it is good to apply ointment so the wound heals well and keep a healing bandage on for at least two weeks. :)
(Among healing bandages, DuoDerm from Boryung Pharmaceutical seems to have the best reviews.)

There are also precautions after treatment.
Since flat warts are a viral condition, if even one lesion is not properly removed, the chance of recurrence is very high.
Therefore, during treatment, not only the visible lesions but also the small warts that may have spread nearby must be carefully removed,
and for this, help from a medical team with extensive treatment experience and a meticulous approach is necessary.
The larger the treatment area, the longer the recovery period,
so I hope you remember that it is important to receive treatment "as early as possible, when there are fewer lesions, and quickly."^^

I hope today’s post was helpful to you, even if only a little.
When it comes to skin conditions, if you miss the right time to treat them, both the treatment process and the time and cost involved will inevitably become longer.
The moment you realize that what you thought was milia-like acne was actually a wart that had spread across your face,
the disappointment and shock would be beyond words.
If even small changes catch your eye every time you look in the mirror,
why not get help from a specialist instead of trying to diagnose it yourself?
That is all I prepared.
Thank you for reading this long post.
This was Director Oh Young-ju. :)
