Hello,
I’m Dr. Oh Young-ju, director of Hongdae Oblige.

“Should I just pop it myself?”
When you look in the mirror and see a red, inflamed breakout,
it’s probably a thought everyone has had at least once.
Many people wonder, “Should I squeeze it or not?” and end up moving their hands first ^^;

But acne does not go away just because you squeeze it blindly.
If you handle it the wrong way, the inflammation can get worse,
and you may end up stressed for a long time because of scars or pigmentation.
Today, I’d like to talk about whether it’s okay to extract acne at home,
and how extraction is done differently at a clinic,
from a doctor’s perspective.
Why is squeezing acne at home a problem?
Sinchon Acne Extraction, Is It Okay to Do It at Home? -1

Many people squeeze acne at home with their hands or tweezers.
Especially after washing their face, when the pores feel open, they often think, “Now’s my chance” and take out an extractor.
But the problem is that you can’t properly see the root of acne deep in the skin,
so you end up irritating only the surface.

When you only squeeze the surface like this, the inflammation remains while the skin is damaged,
which can lead to a bigger breakout or leave a scar.
On top of that, squeezing acne with unclean hands or tools increases the risk of secondary infection.
Acne extraction should be done differently depending on the stage of inflammation, size, and location,
and blindly extracting it without considering the condition will only make the skin suffer more.
So, extracting without a proper judgment can ultimately leave nothing but a ‘wound’ on the skin :(
What’s different about extraction at a clinic?

At a dermatology clinic, acne is not simply squeezed.
The condition of the acne is examined carefully,
and if necessary, treatment to reduce inflammation is done first before extraction.
In addition, medical sterilized instruments are used to minimize irritation to the skin,
so recovery after extraction is faster and the risk of scarring is lower.

Also, because skin calming and recurrence-prevention treatments are provided after extraction,
it is managed as an extension of treatment, not just simple removal.
In particular, acne with severe inflammation or acne that repeatedly appears in the same spot
is much safer and more effective when you get a professional diagnosis
and approach it according to your skin condition rather than trying to manage it alone :)

The skin remembers exactly how we have treated it.
The impatient fingertips, the irritation we passed over carelessly, and the marks left behind by them all.
A small choice you make now can be the beginning of changing your skin in the future.
When you hesitate in front of acne, please remember this.
What your skin needs most is not hands that blindly squeeze it, but proper care and protection.
I support your healthy skin ^^
That’s all for today’s post.
Have a happy day. This was Dr. Oh Young-ju.
