Hello.
I’m Director Oh Young-ju of Hongdae Oblige Clinic :)

Laser hair removal is no longer an unfamiliar procedure these days.
It causes less irritation than waxing or self-hair removal,
and the results last longer, so many people have already experienced it.
However, the equipment used differs from clinic to clinic,
and even if the name sounds familiar, it can be difficult to know exactly what the differences are, which is where concerns begin.

Apogee / GentleMax / Clarity
Especially among well-known devices such as Apogee, GentleMax, and Clarity,
which option suits me best
is difficult to judge based only on simple online reviews or price comparisons.
Today, among these, I’d like to explain the structure and operating principles of
“Apogee Elite,” which has been used for a long time in dermatology clinics,
and why this device is suitable for hair removal,
from the perspective of a practicing dermatologist and clinic director.
If you are considering choosing a dermatology clinic for hair removal, please take a moment to read on.
What is the key to laser hair removal?
Hongdae Laser Hair Removal: Why Use the Apogee Elite? -1

The key to laser hair removal lies in “what wavelength of light is delivered, how deeply it is delivered, and how accurately it is delivered.”
-
Fine hair on the surface of the skin, and
-
Thick hair in deeper areas,
-
People with lighter skin tones and darker skin tones,
for people with such different conditions,
using the same laser for everyone inevitably reduces both efficiency and safety.

What makes Apogee Elite different is that
it can use both 755nm alexandrite laser and 1064nm Nd:YAG laser
within a single device.
Alexandrite (755nm) works well for people with lighter skin and thicker, darker hair.
For example, it is often used on areas such as the underarms, upper lip, arms, and legs.
Because the light reaches the hair follicle precisely, the response is quick and visible results after the procedure tend to appear relatively fast.

Nd:YAG (1064nm) can be used more safely for people with slightly darker skin,
or when there is concern about irritation because the surface is sensitive.
It is also suitable for areas where hair grows deep within the skin (for example, bikini line, beard area, Brazilian hair removal, etc.).

Simply put,
Light skin + thick hair → Alexandrite
Darker skin + sensitive or deeper areas → Nd:YAG
That is an easy way to understand it ^^.
Good equipment is basic;
'How it is used' is what really matters
Hongdae Laser Hair Removal: Why Use the Apogee Elite? -2

Laser hair removal is not a procedure that ends simply because the machine is good.
Even with the same device, the effect, pain, and level of satisfaction can vary quite a bit depending on who uses it and how.
Even if the device has a good wavelength and cooling system like Apogee Elite,
if the intensity, depth, and irradiation time are not adjusted well for the patient’s skin,
-
the hair may not be removed well, or
-
irritation or redness may remain on the skin after the procedure.

In particular, skin tone, sensitivity by area, and hair thickness vary from person to person,
so an experienced practitioner who can adjust the treatment accordingly is essential.
For example, even for the same underarm hair removal, the laser intensity, irradiation speed, and cooling method should differ depending on whether the person has thin or thick skin,
or whether the hair is thick or mostly fine.

In the end, what matters is not only what device is used,
but whether there is medical staff who can adjust that device to suit my skin.
Because hair removal is not a procedure finished in just one or two sessions,
starting in the right direction from the beginning can be the fastest path and the least burdensome for the skin.

Laser hair removal is now a familiar procedure, but there are still many things to consider before starting.
Depending on whether the hair is thick, whether the skin is sensitive, and which area is being treated,
which wavelength should be used, how strongly it should be delivered,
and how the intervals should be adjusted all differ.
Apogee Elite is a device that can be used while fine-tuning these conditions more precisely.
But even more important than that,
I hope you remember that what matters most is the medical staff who can design the treatment to suit your skin. ^^
That’s all I prepared for today.
Thank you for reading this long post.
This was Director Oh Young-ju.
