Hello.

I’m Director Baek, a dentist who dreams of becoming an implant specialist and a gourmet.

There are now only two posts left in my much-anticipated series on London’s 5-star Marriott hotels!

I previously wrote about The London EDITION, one of the top-tier Marriott hotels in London.

It definitely had more to offer than the JW Marriott, and the restaurant was quite good too~

Of course, the JW Marriott’s class is still undeniable :) Haha.

Today’s hotel is the one where I stayed the longest among the hotels I visited—four nights—allowing me to enjoy a proper London hotel vacation.

  • JW Marriott Grosvenor House London

  • The London EDITION

  • The Westin London City

  • London Marriott Hotel Park Lane

Let’s begin Part 3 of my guide to 5-star Marriott hotels for a London hotel vacation~!

Oh, and being a Marriott Platinum Elite member definitely comes with many benefits. Be sure to bring your Shinhan Card, obtain the status, and enjoy your travels~~

The Westin London City

(The Westin London City)

When it comes to the location of The Westin London City, you can think of it as a great base for exploring the eastern side of London during a typical London trip.

It is located directly in front of St Paul’s Cathedral, and you can walk to Tate Modern by crossing the nearby Millennium Bridge.

I also went to see Son Heung-min play a football match, and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was easy enough to reach. It is also well located for visiting Canary Wharf, which has a similar feel to Seoul’s Yeouido, and the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

This is the lobby of The Westin London City, which I visited in the evening.

The ceilings are not particularly high on each floor, but the lobby’s installation extends all the way to the fourth floor, where the concierge is located, creating a very grand impression.

Around sunset, the Westin offers views toward the river, where you can quietly watch sightseeing boats drifting along :) Oh, and you can also take a boat to Canary Wharf! I didn’t get the chance to try it, though~~

Tate Modern is on the right. The fact is that many of the major attractions in eastern London are gathered quite close together!

If you walk a little farther, you can also comfortably take in the skyline of buildings designed by world-famous architects :)

For a Friday stay one month in advance, a standard room costs approximately KRW 580,000.

In expensive London, this is about the best price you can expect for a 5-star hotel.

However, unlike some other hotels, it feels quite new and offers generous benefits to elite members with Platinum status, making it a comfortable place to stay.

The ceilings feel a little low, but the building is very clean and gives the impression of having been recently renovated.

As always, stone interiors create a luxurious and neat atmosphere, which I really enjoyed~~

The fourth floor is the lobby with the concierge, and it also houses the executive lounge and the restaurant where breakfast is served.

The restroom in the lobby of The Westin London City is somewhat famous (?). It has a bright and pleasant view. Haha. I heard that people make a point of using it at least once because it feels so luxurious~ LOL.

Signature Guest Room, 1 King Bed

The corridors have a fairly standard design, and there are quite a lot of rooms.

If you stay at The Westin London City, you will notice something unusual: although the hotel is beside the river, none of the rooms have a view of the Thames. The hotel seems to be built over a bridge (?), so every room has a view of the road..(!?)

Our room, 719, where we stayed for four nights~ Haha.

This is the condition of the room as seen from the entrance.

As expected from a hotel that feels so new, it was extremely clean!

It also seemed to attract many business travelers, probably because it is located in an office district filled with prominent British companies. Hotels that receive many busy business guests are usually well maintained, right? Haha.

As expected of a king-bed room, it was generously sized.

The room condition was fairly standard for a 5-star hotel.

From the bed, you can see a table as well as a separate dining table where you can sit and eat.

When I used to go on package tours, I often stayed in truly unbelievable rooms......

Compared with the accommodation in London where I first stayed during my residency, life has improved considerably.. I feel proud..

The bathroom was also clean and pleasant.

The toilet and shower area were not completely separated, though.

Looking at the shower, you can probably guess one of the disappointing points, right?

Once again, Westin uses its own distinctive amenities. ㅠㅠ They were products made in Turkey.

The amenities at The Westin Josun Busan were disappointing for the same reason. ㅠㅠㅠ

I’m not fond of those amenities..... The pool I’ll show you later uses the same products.

I miss the Le Labo amenities at The London EDITION. And that hotel costs KRW 600,000 per night!!

There is a simple minibar, but for reference, there was nothing in the refrigerator.

It was the only one among London’s 5-star Marriott hotels where the refrigerator was completely empty.

You can order whatever you need using the tablet.

These days, the world has become so convenient that there is no need to use the phone. If you use the Marriott app, you can also contact the desk through the messenger~ Haha.

Executive Lounge – Drinks Only

The executive lounge on the same floor as the lobby is very stylish!!

It is an extremely clean and attractive space with practically no one around~ However, due to the hotel’s circumstances, no food is provided during happy hour or at other times.

Even so, you can comfortably enjoy unlimited coffee, cola, and similar drinks. Before starting my plans each day, I made myself an iced latte and carried it around with me. Haha.

Just keep in mind that the executive lounge offers about this selection of drinks and coffee.

For anything to eat, you have to go to the restaurant across the way.

The Westin London City – Part 3 of My Recommended London 5-Star Marriott Hotel Series: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits, Breakfast, Pool, and a 4-Night Stay Paid for Myself image 28

The restaurant is called MOSAIC, and I’ll briefly show you the breakfast and the food available during evening happy hour~ Haha.

Breakfast

The Westin London City – Part 3 of My Recommended London 5-Star Marriott Hotel Series: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits, Breakfast, Pool, and a 4-Night Stay Paid for Myself image 29

Elite members receive a white card with their name and the validity dates written on it so they can have breakfast free of charge.

You simply show this card when you go for breakfast.

There are various seating options for breakfast, including sofa seating and tables.

The tables have a road view (?) because every room at The Westin London City faces the road.

The Westin London City – Part 3 of My Recommended London 5-Star Marriott Hotel Series: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits, Breakfast, Pool, and a 4-Night Stay Paid for Myself image 32

It provides a fairly open view like this~!

Now, let’s take a look at breakfast. Haha.

There is not an enormous variety of food, but each item is reasonably tasty.

Personally, I thought the salmon selections were quite good.

The vegetables, including the tomatoes, were surprisingly fresh and enjoyable.

Naturally, there was scrambled eggs and hash browns, which always seem to be served~!

I guess these are British favorites. Haha.

The bacon, roasted mushrooms and tomatoes, and sausages were all quite decent~

After eating them four times, I did find myself getting a little tired of them by the fourth meal, though. LOL.

The pancakes were not particularly delicious, but the blueberries and strawberries next to them were incredible.

The fruit really was outstanding at The Westin London City. Having a fruit feast every morning made me so happy...

The quality of the fruit was truly, truly excellent. It was really delicious.

I can confidently say that even people in Korea would not be able to eat fruit like this at home.

The unlimited melon, cantaloupe, and mango were so good that I almost wanted to visit this hotel just to eat them.

Even luxury hotels in Thailand do not usually serve mango like this...

Cheeses were available throughout the morning and evening!

There was also a generous selection of yogurt and fruit juices.

Marriott Bonvoy elite members receive this excellent breakfast free of charge.

There were also fresh fruit juices and various cereals that are popular in Britain.

Just take a look at how much is provided like this~~ Haha.

It is not quite as extensive as breakfast in Korea, but there is enough to enjoy a satisfying meal.

Perhaps because it is a business hotel, they put a little extra effort into breakfast.

The bakery items can be warmed up if you ask.

If you order an omelet, they prepare it and bring it to your table.

I guess the various fruit jams are standard across Marriott hotels. I think I ate dozens of jars. LOL.

Personally, I also enjoyed the croissants and pain au chocolat.

The sliced bread next to them was toasted perfectly when requested, so I had a very pleasant and satisfying breakfast—and ate quite a lot.

And this was our completed breakfast spread!

If there was a theme, it would definitely be bakery items and fruit, right? I was happy that I could eat such a generous amount of fruit.

If you ask, they will also bring you as much coffee as you would like. There was plenty of that to enjoy as well..

Dinner – Evening Cocktails

Simple snacks are also served in the evening.

They are meant to be enjoyed with a glass of wine, but the quality is sufficient to fill you up if you eat enough.

There were crackers and cheeses, potato chips, and some of the bakery items we had seen at breakfast.

These are the daily-changing dishes, including rice and other items. One day, something similar to spicy stir-fried pork was served too. Haha.

Seeing this, I thought it might be possible to replace one dinner with the lounge offerings.... However, it is only available until 7 p.m., so you have to return to the hotel early, which is a drawback.

There is plenty of wine and beer to enjoy.

Many white guests also came by to relax and have a drink. It seemed to be a well-established part of the local hotel culture.

Of the salads, the one on the right with prosciutto was my favorite.

The arugula was tasty, and the subtly sweet cherry tomatoes were excellent too!! I thought it was worth returning to the hotel early at least once to enjoy this~ Haha.

Pool and Sauna

The Westin London City – Part 3 of My Recommended London 5-Star Marriott Hotel Series: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits, Breakfast, Pool, and a 4-Night Stay Paid for Myself image 63

Finally, the hotel has a swimming pool, which is one of its major advantages, so I’d like to introduce it without leaving anything out~!

When you enter, you are greeted by numerous lockers. The main point is that there are very few people, so you can practically use the facilities as if they were your own.

During several days in the men’s shower room, it was difficult to encounter even one other person.

The sinks and showers are clean, although once again, the amenities are Westin’s standard amenities.

I’m sharing these photos simply so you can take a look at the facilities~!!

Clean and nice, right?

The Westin London City – Part 3 of My Recommended London 5-Star Marriott Hotel Series: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits, Breakfast, Pool, and a 4-Night Stay Paid for Myself image 66

The highlight is, of course, the pool.

The water is a little cold, but there is a separate heated pool.

There are also sun loungers, which you can naturally use free of charge.

The pool is 1.2 meters deep, so it is not intimidating, and although it is not particularly luxurious, it is more than adequate and enjoyable.

The Westin London City – Part 3 of My Recommended London 5-Star Marriott Hotel Series: Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits, Breakfast, Pool, and a 4-Night Stay Paid for Myself image 67

A hotel vacation is incomplete without a swimming pool~

The color of the pool water is also very pleasing! During our four-night stay, I think we spent two mornings enjoying the pool to our hearts’ content. Perhaps one day we’ll bring our child along too?

Most of the foreign guests sitting on these beds were waiting to receive massages.

We mainly used them for lying down and resting after swimming. Haha.

There is also a gym on the same floor filled with Technogym equipment. It is available 24 hours a day, so you can make good use of it~!

  • JW Marriott Grosvenor House London

  • The London EDITION

  • The Westin London City

  • London Marriott Hotel Park Lane

This is the third installment of my four-part tour of London’s 5-star Marriott hotels.

I visited The Westin London City without particularly high expectations, but I was pleased to find that it felt much newer than expected, offered good-quality food, and had an excellent pool.

Hyde Park and Kensington are, of course, affluent areas, but if you are visiting London as a traveler with a relatively generous itinerary, consider staying here as well! During our four-night stay, we went to a Tottenham Hotspur home match and easily visited Canary Wharf and the Royal Observatory Greenwich :)

With a Google rating of 4.5, it seems to be a well-loved hotel. It feels a little more business-oriented than The Westin Josun Seoul in Korea, but it is still a good hotel.

Advantages

The hotel feels new and is clean. Well-managed hotels in 100-year-old buildings may have their own appeal through their antique atmosphere, but there is a different kind of joy that comes with something new. Haha.

The pool facilities are clean, and because there are not many users, you can enjoy them comfortably and without feeling crowded.

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status or higher includes complimentary breakfast. There is plenty of fruit at breakfast, and the bakery items are tasty. I think this is a feature that will stay in your memory for quite a while.

Because it is in the east, the hotel is close to major attractions such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern.

It has all the conditions needed for a pleasant hotel vacation~!!

Disadvantages

The executive lounge is not very active, so it is somewhat lacking if you want to go there for food. As an alternative, there is a generous supply of coffee and soft drinks.

The amenities are not very good. Westin’s amenities are not particularly appealing..

I am doing my best to compare the 5-star Marriott hotels in London where I stayed.

At a similar price point, The Westin London City was a place where I could enjoy a modern atmosphere and generous food offerings. Haha.

My final London hotel vacation post will be about London Marriott Hotel Park Lane. I’ll be back with that one~!

That was another look at the daily life of Director Baek, the dentist!!
