This is Baek Director’s food guide.

Looking at the date, it has been over a month since I last posted about a Korean restaurant! These days, I have been busy getting ready to restart after taking some time to refresh ^^ I expect to post about more Garosu-gil restaurants from now on.

A long time ago, I wrote about the Cheonggyecheon branch of Beef Noodle Restaurant, which was known as a great place for beef noodles. I visited there when I had just started dating my former girlfriend, who is now my wife. At the time, I wrote that I did not come away with as strong an impression as I had expected.

The place I visited today is also said to be quite a famous restaurant in the Garosu-gil area, so I decided to give it a try. There was a bit of a wait, but valet parking is affordable, and it is a decent place in many respects.

Jyu's

I remember there being a particularly large number of female customers when I visited. It is an impressive place for dim sum packed with savory flavor and just a slight kick of spiciness.

Location: 13 Dosan-daero 17-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

Parking: Valet parking available. 3,000 won.

The name… once you hear it, it is pretty hard to forget. “Jyu's”!!!

It has a 4.37 rating on Naver. Sadler Haus, one of my favorite places, is right across the street.

Interestingly, valet parking is not handled in front of the restaurant. Instead, it is available at a booth about 100 meters to the left of the restaurant.

The affordable valet fee is one of its attractions.

Rating on the Siksin app

Wow! I was surprised.

It has received two stars on the Siksin app, along with an impressive rating of 4.5.

To receive such a high rating in the Garosu-gil area, where there are so many delicious restaurants~!!

Actually, I did not find this place through the Siksin app, so I was quietly impressed by my own ability to discover such a great restaurant.. haha

Let’s see whether it really is a Garosu-gil favorite!

Exterior

The exterior of the restaurant did not feel particularly special, but one notable feature was how many people there were inside.

However, because of the nature of the food, the tables turn over quickly and seats become available soon.

Interior

There were so many people that it was difficult to take pictures of the interior.

The semi-basement level is spacious and has many seats. The half-above-ground level has fewer seats, but a better view.

As you can see, it was striking that most of the customers were young women!

My companion and I, two men visiting together, felt like unusual customers. Haha

This is the menu at Jyu's, a Cantonese dim sum restaurant in Garosu-gil.

We came because we wanted to try the signature dim sum and dan dan noodles, so we did not have much trouble deciding what to order.

We ordered one of each of three types of dim sum: xiaolongbao, spicy pork wontons, and spicy shrimp wontons.

We also ordered two noodle dishes: dan dan noodles and shrimp wonton noodles.

Let’s start eating!!!

Dan Dan Noodles (10,000 won)

The dishes started coming out in less than three minutes—no exaggeration.

Perhaps because there are so many customers and the tables turn over quickly, they keep making the food continuously.

As you can see, the broth in these dan dan noodles is very thick and intensely flavored.

The noodles had a pleasant, silky texture, and they were savory without being overly spicy.

The dan dan noodles are worth recommending.

Shrimp Wonton Noodles (11,000 won)

Since it seemed like all the dishes were quite spicy, we ordered one that was not spicy.

But personally, I was somewhat disappointed by the shrimp wonton noodles.

First, there was far too little broth compared with the amount of noodles. There simply was not enough broth, leaving the noodles bland.

The shrimp wontons inside were tasty, but overall, the wonton noodles felt a little lacking.

Personally, I think Tim Ho Wan serves wonton noodles that are flavorful enough.

Xiaolongbao (4,000 won)

Three xiaolongbao for just 4,000 won.

There is definitely a reason this is listed at the top of the menu. The intensely flavored meat broth inside was truly impressive.

I think these xiaolongbao are especially delicious when eaten hot. In fact, we ordered another plate.

This is a highly recommended dish!

Spicy Shrimp Wontons (7,500 won)

There were spicy shrimp wontons and spicy pork wontons, right?

The spicy shrimp wontons arrived first. Four wontons are served, each containing two reasonably sized shrimp.

They were not as spicy as I expected. There was just enough chili oil heat to keep them from feeling greasy.

They were delicious. Thinking back, the flavor was really quite good..

Spicy Pork Wontons (6,000 won)

These pork wontons are also served as four pieces, but they are somewhat cheaper.

They have a different flavor from the meat inside the xiaolongbao. As you chew, the rich aroma of pork fills your mouth. They have the characteristic porky flavor that I personally enjoy.

Personally, I really liked the flavor. Great stuff!!

With a friend’s help, I took a appetizing photo. This one will probably become the thumbnail..

Cream Shrimp (16,000 won)

As expected.. one downside of going to a dim sum restaurant is that you can remain somewhat hungry, right? Even after two men ate the five dishes above, we were not particularly full...

So we added the cream shrimp to avoid ordering another overlapping dish. However, instead of the “pour-the-sauce-over” style we had imagined, the cream shrimp arrived in a “dip-the-shrimp” style.

The sauce itself was certainly tasty, but dipping the shrimp in it did not bring the flavors together as well as I expected.

For one thing, the sauce was quite thick, making it difficult to dip the shrimp. The shrimp had also been slightly overcooked, resulting in a firm coating...

In any case, I think this dish could be much better with just a little improvement!

Still, the shrimp were definitely substantial. Haha. I wonder how it would be if they simply switched to pouring the sauce over the shrimp....

The postscript is that after eating these six plates, we were still a little hungry, so we ordered another three-item dim sum set.

In the end, the two of us polished off nine plates. Hahaha. We ate until we were stuffed, and the total came to around 70,000 won~!

We had another truly delicious meal today!

Conclusion

A dim sum restaurant you think about more after eating than while you are eating

Honestly, after finishing the meal and leaving, I thought it was tasty but could not shake the feeling that it was fairly ordinary.

But it is a restaurant that comes to mind more as time passes. Haha. Personally, I think it is a pretty good place.

However, you probably need to choose the menu items carefully.

Personally, I thought the xiaolongbao, spicy shrimp wontons, and spicy pork wontons were all really good. They were excellent dishes that I can imagine craving from time to time and returning to eat again.

The dan dan noodles were also good. The thick broth was satisfying, and there were not too many noodles~ I could understand why the restaurant is so popular with women!!

However, the cream shrimp was a little dry, and the shrimp wonton noodles had too little broth and tasted bland. I think it would be difficult to recommend these two dishes..

So, if I considered only the signature dim sum and dan dan noodles, this would have been a five-star restaurant. However, because of the disappointing dishes, I revised the rating to four stars.. It probably will not happen, but if the chef happens to read my post... I would cautiously like to ask for just a little improvement... haha
